I would prefer a champion to fight in their own weight class, and not hold up his division.

Volk is one of the few champs that people love when he's champ although many people (including myself) hated him for about a year when he "won" the 2nd fight vs Max. I realize it was close, but I still think Max won it, but Volk got the nod because he was the current champ.

He fought so well the first fight. And he will have learned a lot as you said. But Makhachev will have learned a lot too. He made some basic mistakes in their first fight he probably won’t make again.

"This fight wouldn't happen" is correct. "This fight is not happening", while technically wrong/confusing, makes some sense as the "if the roles *were* reversed" part asks us to imagine the past and then allow events to play out from there. Like rewinding a tape (past tense) and then pressing play (present). However, since it is a hypothetical, "would" should be used instead of "is". But, "is" makes it sound more concrete/definite, so maybe Volk subconsciously chose it to make his point more strongly.
