That's age and accumulated damage for you. The times where Diego got shaken in rounds 1 and 2, that'd have been knockdowns or even knockouts if their respective ages were reversed. And in the same time, don't think that the amount of punches he ate did anything good for his resilience going into the future. Thay's why whether Volk keeps winning or not, I'd rather he retired. Having a vision loss in the middle of a fight should've been an alarm bell for him, but to hear him talk he refuses to call it his time.

Volk is a legend, but I think Ilia is the best 145 has ever seen. Still early but, he's kinda proving himself to be on another level finishing max and volk. We'll see how he does at lightweight, if he succeeds there I think there's no dispute he outclassed the entirety of 145.

Ilia is a finishing machine, the strongest 145er we've ever seen for sure, but he hasn't reached Volk technical brilliance yet.

As an Australian, 'eloquent' is not one of the first adjectives that comes to mind when describing Volk. 😂 He does come across as very authentic, though, and we love him for it. I get so nervous for his fights. I both love and hate watching them.

I am a professional heavyweight MMA fighter. Went 2-0 with 2 stoppages starting out strong. Signed to LFA with good implications, unfortunately in that fight, suffered a fluke injury and needed surgery for my knee. He's right! Adversity is a privilege. I'm so much stronger now than I thought and I'm ready to go almost 9 months post op. Volk, you said your goal is to inspire the people, I went for a run after watching this presser at 3 AM here in NY. You are an absolute legend! Thank you!

Incredible Victory by Alexander Volkanovski, that was a brutal war and extremely dangerous considering the power and remarkable chin of Diego Lopes to take some many huge shots and still come back with more vicious attacks to regain the Title. However, Volkanovski has extremely high Championship level fight IQ and found a way to stay relentlessly aggressive with the volume he was putting out with his striking even after a dangerous knockdown; he kept coming forward and didn't let his foot off the gas throughout the fight. Absolutely incredible, he's my Greatest Featherweight Of All-time. Hopefully, Lopes does not lose confidence and can work on becoming more versatile as he looked very one dimensional out there as a pure boxer; more utilization of his leg strikes, takedown attempts and showcasing more unpredictability and being well-rounded will definitely take him to the next level. Not enough is said about these Warriors and the bravery they exemplify by risking their lives and health every single time they step in the Octagon to support their Families. Alex deserves much needed rest and recovery as being too active after taking that much damage is dangerous for your cognitive functioning long-term and prioritizing health is definitely necessary to retire and enjoy life as much as possible with your Family & Friends after this Legendary Career is set and done. Congratulations Alex, you are inspiring us all with your "Never Give Up" attitude. A lot of fighters would not have been able to continue to push forward in this fight with the amount of force that was coming at you. Great Job! Sad for Diego, but he will have more chances. Volk was extremely imp for many reasons. His chin had to have carried some mental weight. He answered a lot of questions against a tough and very able opponent. I refused to get on the Volk wagon. Especially when he kept beating my boy Max, but he totally won me over with the first islam fight. Now im covering my eyes when he fights. This was a great victory for Volk Fans and even for the UFC. I hope gets to take out Evloev next AND has some solid family time on the Farm.

Volk would made a great captain in a rugby team. A few blokes I played with that were captains have that mindset. Tough, caring, hardworking with mentally tough as nails.

can't tell if people are biased but imo paddys performance should've been fight of the night (both were sick fights but wasn't paddys performance much better?)

Paddy won performance of the night. Volk v Lopez was a much better fight because it was way more competitive. Paddy dominated Chandler the whole fight. The fights that win are usually ones that either fighter could’ve won at any moment.

eh, when you're in a fight like that it takes a while for the damage and swelling to actually catch up with you. You feel wayyyyy worse the day or two after than you do right after getting a W. When you're still riding the high it doesn't hurt yet 😆
