Being from Hawaii and a fan of Max, it took a while for me to warm up to Volk. I didn't care for his point-fighting style, I thought his trash talk was kind of corny, and he "beat" my favorite fighter more than once. I liked him a little bit more after TUF, but still wasn't a fan. I was at 276 when he put on a masterclass against Max. Thats when he gained my full respect. I'm a full blown fan since the war with Islam

Diego looked huge at the faceoff but Volk is used to that. Very interesting matchup. The hungry young lion versus the seasoned veteran. If we see the Volk who showed up against Islam the first time I think he reclaims the title. If he then defends against Evloev he will go down as the FW goat. Maybe he is anyway. Stoked for this one. Not true. When Islam beat Volk in the first fight, Volk was so salty that he accused Islam of cheating by using IV's despite having NO proof. Alhamdullilah Islam is 2-0 against Volk and the P4P number 1 UFC fighter in the world. Belal and Ank are on their way as well.

Ali tweeted saying they were allowed to use IV and people saw islams teams walk into the hotel with IV .Jon jones is p4p 1 and Ank and Belal are genuinely some of the most boring fighters on the roster. People are forgetting how much of a savage Volk is. If it wasn't for Islam, Volk would still be on top of the mma game. Islam beat him twice and the 2nd time was that headkick KO and then he came back too soon against Ilia. That's not taking anything away from Ilia but I still feel like "What if Volk had waited longer to return vs Ilia?". So, if it wasn't for Islam (who might very well be the GOAT of MMA when it's all said and done), Volk would still be the best.

I love Volk, I really do & I mean this in the nicest way. But as a UFC fan I do NOT want to see him as champion again. I appreciate all that Volk did, he defended it multiple times, he stepped up to fight Islam. He’s a FW goat, It’s all great. But Volk as champion is one thing I couldn’t care less about. I’ve seen it already. The featherweight division desperately needs Diego Lopez to win the title. He has an aura hype to him, the fan base loves him. He could reach Charles Oliveira champ status if he wins.

@ Divisions definitely have needs, if their champ isn’t drawing fans with exciting fights. It gets moved to the back of the line. The fans grew tired of Demetrius Johnson at flyweight. He had no competition, the division got so stale that the fans cheered a Henry Cejudo decision win. There was talk of completely removing the division completely. Before Volk fought Islam 5 out his last 6 fights were decision wins.

Competition is what keeps it interesting, that’s why the Lightweight division is the most competitive & interesting division in the whole league. I never said it was a living creature.
