Man Islam Makachev vs Volk in Australia at UFC 284 was a true classic. A real back and forth war, masterclass performance by both. My favorite fight of 2023. Hard to believe it’s been 2 years now, time flies.

The problem with boxing is it's not an organized sport, having multiple fight promoters under different banners. The rankings are chopped up into 4 main sanctioning associations who all have they're own ranking system and they're own belts. I would say that those are the signs of a highly disorganized professional sport.

My interest in UFC has been decreasing lately but Islam vs Volkanovski and Jones vs Gane are single-handedly keeping me interested in this promotion (in spite of Dana’s recent antics). Insanely hyped for this. Edit: People are asking me why I care about Dana's antics. This is just my personal opinion, but he has recently became even more of a douchebag and that decreases my enthusiasm for the company he is presiding over. Recent examples include purposefully "forgetting" Islam's name multiple times, shit talking Fedor after retirement because he's still salty Fedor never signed with the UFC, giving fighters insanely restrictive contracts, yet still not designating fighters as employees so they don't get additional benefits (which would be illegal in many European countries, based on my knowledge of Dutch labour law), chasing away the UFC's best heavyweight fighter, promoting the garbage slap league which is just a way to give CTE to fighters who get paid peanuts. I even ignored his business with his wife, because she hit him first, but he's a pussy for that too.

Islam is too big and tall. He'll dominate the clinch and lean on Volk. Volk's featherweight frame and lack of technical wrestling knowledge (specifically that cage wrestling, trips, and heavy top pressure stuff that the Dagestani's do) is what will fail him. If only he had one-punch KO power then I'd say he has a chance, but Islam will tire him out until the sub arrives.

The calm demeanor of Makhachev is simply underrated. During the highs and lows you don't see a flinch of difference. We haven't seen this mans confidence change, but the most humble fighter one would see. This is an edge bigger than most will even recognize and understand. Almost scary how calm this man has been, can be and stays in the face of battle.
