Gaethje's punches damaged his nerves, as Gaethje did to Tony Ferguson's. Gaethje's movement and punches are more slow motion but it hits hard like a truck, which is not good for long term health. Ilia's punch was so fast, he just knocked you out because it was so fast. This is all Dana's fault. Healthy Max Holloway version from earlier this year will beat this version of Ilia.

@@B-Milli true. As a huge Max fan, fair play to Ilia but man did they look bad- especially at the end of round 2 when it got a reaction from Ilia I thought it was gonna shift momentum. Going in the 3rd Max also looked to have a rib injury on the right side (considerable swelling) as when he initially got backed up against the fence he was dropping his right arm to protect that side (re-watching it in slow-mo you can see the swelling). Hell of a fight 🙏

I was loving those. Max was winning the rounds and mixing it up so well with the level changes and keeping Ilia from getting comfortable but then the KO happened :(

I think the main issue was that those calf kicks from Ilia just completely negated Max’s footwork, he was doing well when his feet were good.

Going into the fight I was telling everyone Ilia's gameplan is simple [as reflected in past fights]: chop away at the lead leg to negate movement, pressure to the fence and unload but Max's footwork [statistically] causes opponents to land less which is why I was expecting the end of round 2 to start widening the gap between them. But like Max said, the fight game is one of inches so fair play to Ilia

The worst part for me is that I'm on the West Coast so the main card started at 11 AM and I had to work, I had to stay composed in front of customers while I was so defeated cuz 5 feet away from me my phone with the volume turned down I saw max get finished as I could only glance at my phone for 5 seconds at a time here are there and happened to glance while he got finished

@@Josh-vf2im Well you need to understand that pro fighters are competitive, they don't put their blood, sweat and tears into preparing for a fight just to lose, they all want to win, and the brutality that comes with combat sports is that there can only be one winner, because I understand that perspective, I'm not judgemental when a fighter cries after losing, or is pissed or bitter, or makes a thousand excuses, they have a right to do that, let them process their loss however they want to, that's their prerogative 🤷🏾‍♂️, and again, losing at a regional level is not the same as losing at a world level...

The polarity in this sport is insane. Max has an incredible last second ko against Gaethje earlier this year, comes back to 145 to challenge Illia and gets knocked out himself. Reminds me when Dustin beat Connor the third time and then lost against Oliveira later that year.

Max hold your head up! Hawaii's son always proud. After the Gathjie fight in 308, Kahbib paid you a great compliment. He said, "Max hadn't reached his best fighting form till now at this age." Don't give up. Become your best version of you at the 155 lb level. One question: "why wasn't the upper cut implemented in the fight, and two, it seems you were safer trading with Ilia on the inside than waiting on the outside. A fighter like Ilia can't handle if pressured. Just a spectator/ fan viewpoint.

wrong. illias technique is what gives him the upper hand. he hits people with wild precision, those hip snaps and everything is perfect. people don't see his shots coming and those are the ones that hurt the most

In my opinion, Max and his team should consider vacating the BMF belt even if it wasn't up for contention for ufc 308. It adds more public scrutiny of its validation after a devastating loss; something he should evade irrespectively what Dana says. Ilia was the better fighter in 308, but Max can come out the better man. This belt doesn't define him. His heart and his convictions define him. Max can reclaim the belt on his rise and comeback.

Nah everyone was saying it was a mistake when he moved up to 155 then switched after it went well for him. He and his team made a decision they believed was right, it went well for him at LW and he was up against a future great of the sport now so he didn’t win down at FW, he’s been beating everyone except Volk and ilia at FW for years.

I know this might hurt your feelings, but the judging was horrible most of the night, most people agree, a lot of fighters agree, media agree. And overall, judging the last maybe 6 months is just a dumpster fire.

Okay so if you admit yourself that both rounds could go either way, then why is it a problem that it was scored 2-0? Both rounds were close yes, but Topuria edged them out, especially round 2. Just bc you get 2 close rounds doesnt mean you should automatically make it 1-1 lmao. Thats not how it works

We all know judging is shit. But this was not an example of it. Logically your comment doesnt make sense. If theres 2 rounds and both can go either way, that means the score could justifiably be 1-1, or 2-0 for either fighter. Topuria got the edge bc damage is the most important criteria and he clearly did more damage.

Definitely should be a lightweight. He has given us enough entertainment at featherweight. He has matured and filled out. Looked horrible at the weigh in and despite how much you hydrate you cannot hydrate your brain fast enough. Dehydration on its own can lead to brain damage add a little blunt force trauma, lights out. Hats off to both men.Torch has passed Ilia is the man to beat. Keep yo head up Max!
