Ian Freeman dedicated his victory to his dying father - his dad had actually died the day before but his family didn't tell him because they knew he'd be unable to fight if he'd known.

Wow. Is that true? If so, that’s one dedicated fight family. Being able to both agree on that course of action, and then to stick to it with nobody cracking? Great story about a fighter I already appreciated. Thanks.

Ian Freeman came to the states promoting Fedor's MMA company M1. Got his pic with my son. it was pretty cool because it was a small event and no one really recognized him. I saw him walk by and said, "The Machine" he turned around and smiled then took a pic with my son.

I remember this night vividly. Nights like these made me wish that I was a UFC fighter. It's crazy to me that Matt Hughes became crippled later on in life. He seemed unstoppable in this era.

@@shojo8708 Bro. Really was a double knockout. Watch it again. Not only was Matt out; he didn't realize he won the fight until 3 or 4 seconds after he reagined consciousness. The ref was tending to Carlos and did not notice. That should have been a NoContest. Matt was 80% out. Carlos was completely gone. The impact on Carlos head was far more severe than the asphyxiation Matt received from the triangle.

@@shojo8708 That's not the way the rules state. If you CANNOT: intelligently defend yourself, or you are unable to respond to the referees instructions, the fight must be stopped. Neither of them could acknowledge the refs commands, or intelligently defend themselves. The last remote sign of a guy intellegently defending himself was; when Matt slammed Carlos. That's what the referee saw. That's what the fans saw. We saw Carlos get slammed unconscious. A few seconds removed from the stoppage, we all noticed Matt was incoherent. The referee didn't see that. He was worried for Carlos who; had it been a fight to the death was about to get buried when Matt regained frame of reference. Be real here
