There's something about Sean man. Periera who isn't afraid of anyone even has an interview saying Strickland was like a different person inside the cage and he actually got scared. He has a pressure outside of his fighting that hits people.

Costa did more damage. Rob’s face was busted up and it wasn’t just from the wheel kick. Whittaker gets rocked in just about every fight, aside from the Vettori fight but that’s because Vettori is a cardio guy with no power. If Costa (who hasn’t had a finish in 6 years) can rock him, then certainly Ikram can as well…and probably will

I love these fights for Rob cuz these are all the guys the casuals said would beat him when he was champ. “Wait until he fights Costa or Gastelum.” Then Cannonier and Vettori showed up. “They’re too big and tough for Rob.”… proceeds to put on masterclasses against them all and not even lose a single round 💀💀💀

When DDP came around… what did everyone say?😂 Rob is always better when people don’t have much faith in him. Its why I think he would’ve absolutely humbled Khamzat… but now he’s fighting the unranked contender who everyone is once again saying he’ll beat easily 😭

@@jadenw-d5562 You might be on to something. I think this is a really tough fight for Rob, maybe tougher than Khamzat. Rob could have a clear game plan against Khamzat…defend the takedowns, push a pace, and wait for Khamzat to gas himself out or get desperate and open himself up to strikes. Whittaker has always been incredibly well rounded and that’s a huge factor in his success. I think DDP beat Rob because there was just no area of the game that Rob had a clear advantage in..DDP can offensively wrestle well and he’s a dangerous striker. The same can be said for Ikram. Ikram is a very good wrestler…Khamzat couldn’t get him down and he does shoot for takedowns and utilize that part of his game. On the feet he’s just very dynamic, powerful, and dangerous. And I’ve never seen him gas. Tough fight for Whittaker imo

If you’ve been in the ring it’s hard to really make that call as you’re fighting. You mostly remember the good things you did or really bad mistakes you made and in a close fight a lot of times guys just really don’t know. With all the adrenaline and pain a lot of guys have thought they won when they shouldn’t have.

Yup! Costa just doesn't have the cardio it seems full stop. You always see in his promo videos, he's taking a break half the time, power kicking the heavy bag other times in the montage. He fights so dumb sometimes, as his reach is so short, unless he works that effective fast jab, he's got no reach for a MW.

More fighters need to utilize the kick like these two fighters. It's no coincidence these are two of the top fighters in their weight class. It's because they're so well rounded and both do a great job of attacking the lead leg. This is something that is really starting to become a factor in every major modern UFC fight

It’s because Costa just isn’t that good. Oh, don’t me wrong, he can hang with the best, he has the talent and the skill, but his win resume is mostly trash, and his entire fighting style is focused around enforcing his size and will on you, like he did with many of his early UFC opponents. But when his opponent is actually able to stand their ground, he’s reduced to an above-average kickboxer with an astonishing physique and dogshit grappling.

It’s not the Philly shell that does that. Historically the Philly shell is a defensive technique for guys who fight off the backfoot. Sean uses teeps and his parry’s to keep you back and force the long shots to miss. His checking kicks slowly took away costas weapons so he’s forced to back up and reset and Sean just slowly pressures him

I've noticed bobby's last 2 fights he rarely threw any kicks up high, only one on costa and I think only one with dricus. He was cracking vettori with them so many times it's a big weapon of his I hope he goes back to it.

Who tf are the commentators who said that the fight could go either side in round 3 ? Whittaker outpunched n outlanded Costa by 3 to 1 in every round. Except for his high lucky kick in the end of the 1st round, Costa was mostly the receiver of Whittaker's combos throughout the fight.

Nobody realizes this, but it’s so awesome to see the people that come from different countries and compete in this UFC events and become someone or go back to the drawing board. Rob showcasing his epic toughness in this fight. His ability to get rocked and then completely recover is super hero status. But what won him this fight with the always dangerous Costa is his fighting IQ. His ability to adjust to his opponents and find his best scoring weapon. In this case that lower leg kick and double left jab. Both scored at will. Costa needs to take notes here he tends to be one note. Everything hard with a KO bow on top. HIs kicks were working very well if he'd stayed with them it would have been much closer. Rob truly one of the all time greats. IF you are King Kong (Yoel Romero) he becomes Godzilla. If you are a lion (Paul Costa) he becomes the cobra. Add to this the class act that he is = top of a short list.
