If the GSP/Hendricks fight is judged using the Pride rules, I'd say it's a clear Hendricks win. But if you judge the fight by the way fights are scored round by round in the UFC, it's not a horrible decision. Rounds 3 and 5 are GSP's, rounds 2 and 4 are Hendricks. Round 1 was really close, you could even say it was a draw. I gave it to Hendricks, but not really by much. So in the end the deciding factor was round 1, which was a very close round, and the decision was a split decision win for GSP. I gave the fight to Hendricks, but if you break it down, it is not as shocking a decision as many think.
@KamikazeKoala6911 жыл бұрын
PLEASE rewatch round 1! Over and over! And tell me what GSP did besides for the failed submission attempt and less effective striking? I don't see how people think the 1st round was so close! Try watching with the sound off. Really focus on the fight.. Did you see those elbows Hendricks landed against the fence on GSP? That and the overall control is just too much to deny.. 1,2,4 Hendricks.
@mmadigest11 жыл бұрын
Patrick Vilone Fight Metric had the following stats for round one: -Hendricks landing 27 total strikes in round one vs 26 for GSP -GSP landing 19 significant strikes vs 18 for Hendricks I feel that's pretty close, just my opinion. If you or anyone else differ on that that, cool. Everyone has their own take on it. But the elbows that you mentioned are the main thing that swung me in the favor of Hendricks in that round. I felt that was really the only major thing to happen in the first round damage-wise. He elbowed GSP hard against the cage and that cut up GSP over his right eye. Felt it was a close round, but to me, those elbows were the most significant thing to take place in the round in terms of damage, and made me chose Hendricks as the victor of that round.
@DaRealFiberOptix11 жыл бұрын
yea but thats all bs, the 2 men in there know what happened, its about 2 wills going against eachother and 1 breaking, by the end of it they both know what would happen the 2nd time now that theyve seen the others skills. gsp quit

***** I rewatched it and this time I didn't just focus on Hendricks. It was close but GSP winning can definetely be justified. A lot of the times Rogan an Goldberg screamed Hendricks didn't even hit him. I thought Hendricks won, but watching it again I noticed that he hit the guard of GSP a lot! And the first time, I was so hyped on Hendricks winning that I didn't even notice all the hard punches he got hit with. His eyes were rolling back several times. Great fight and equally fun to watch the second time!

exactly what Hendricks is saying at the end is why he won the fight. to me he clearly won 3 rounds, and could have won the 3rd as well because there wasn't much going on in that round. the 5th round is the only round that gsp actually won.
@dion403711 жыл бұрын
See the thing is under the current rules GSP won that fight no questions asked.......But if damage were a complete tier in scoring Hendricks obviously would have taken this...think about it if GSP landed 3 of his jabs and Johnny landed one of his overhand rights who would you rather be? Everyone blames the judges but really its the scoring system itself that's the issue.

I understand Johny's frustration. He probably could've handled it better, but to be robbed of the belt like that must feel awful. He trained his whole life for that fight, won the fight (didn't dominate, but definitely won), and deserved to bring the belt home. Silver lining is that GSP is gone so maybe the fans can start to enjoy Welterweight title fights again. I used to love GSP, but he's been a boring fighter ever since Serra knocked him out.

We can go round and round about the scoring, who won, or who lost.. I think what bugs me the most is that the reaction GSP had after the fight. (And his team) Did GSP win? Maybe in today's MMA point system.. But if GSP can look at that fight, after taking WAAAAY more damage than Hendricks, and not even hurting Johny at all, and at many times being dominated by Johny, then it shows that GSP is a POINT collector before a fighter and only looks to win rounds not fights. Rampage years ago beat Ninja but ADMITTED he lost and even said it to Ninja because he knew he lost even when in the record books, he win. That shows huge respect. If GSP can't do something like that and prance around like he won the fight, then no respect to you my friend.
@georgeyy_coop11 жыл бұрын
You start off by saying that he could win in todays point scoring system, which is the only relevant scoring system for this discussion seeing as it is the one being used, so that basically takes away the point of anything else you said on that matter. Damage isn't in the scoring criteria being used, so regardless of whether it should or shouldn't be utilised (in the scoring) that point is irrelevant. I don't really care about taking sides, but how bout we look at the most bullshit point of them all. Only punching at 70% because his hand wraps were done wrong? I'm sure that would be the only thing in your mind when you are fighting for a world title. God forbid you have to persevere through anything, hey Hendricks?! That'd be outlandish wouldn't it! What do they think you are, like, I dunno, some kind of world class fighter or something?!?! So anyway, if he really sticks by that excuse and calls it the truth, what was the point of him winning anyway? How long do you honestly think he would last at the top if he can't even perform properly due to something barely significant, if even significant at all? If you cannot respect GSP for all he has been through and done at this point, you are a very strange man, and i'm 100% (70% even?) sure you haven't earned his respect. Tell me how much you don't care, and then realise how much he doesn't either. Everything goes round and round my friend, everything does.

In the NSAC point scoring world GSP won 3-2... In the real world Hendricks won. If you didn't see that decision coming before Buffer said it then you haven't watched many close decisions. The champ always gets it. I'm not saying it's right, but it wasn't a fucking surprise rookies.

If I was Johny I would of absolutely fucking ripped the NSAC when Rogan interviewed him after the fight. I would refuse to fight in Nevada until they get that shit fixed. Johny got robbed big time he did everything that GSP did but more and more effectively.
@drewsparks222211 жыл бұрын
He did more damage and had way more critical strikes. But GSP out-scored him in strikes. Unfortunately it seems like the NSAC scoring system doesn't account for critical strikes the way they should. Just because a guy can pop a zillion jabs out there, doesn't mean he should win the round if the other guy is landing less strikes but bombs.
@JakkkeyBrahhh11 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is if you look up the actual stats,Hendricks landed more strikes overall including Jabs. But in some parallel universe the Judges think GSP won this fight o.O
@CdnGamer11 жыл бұрын
Drew Sparks Hendricks lost round one because GSP's guillotine put Hendricks in a more vulnerable spot that the elbows GSP took while in the clinch. A good submission attempt will always beat out strikes in the clinch. That was the fight right there.

GSP won because he's smarter. He understands how MMA is judged and adjusts his game accordingly. The reason Johny only used "70%" power is because he knew full power means ending up on his back on 100% of his misses, and no one has ever caught GSP clean on the chin to put him down, so he didn't even try to. Serra & Condit landed behind the ear & side of head. Both unorthodox shots.

Even with what Johny perceives to be a bad decision in the first round, they were still tied going into the 5th. One guy (GSP) left everything he had in the cage, while the challenger (Johny) decided to just hold on and win what he thought was his decision. That's a risky game to play sir and you paid dearly for it.

Gsp didnt leave because of Dana. He left because he's been getting beat up bad in his past couple of fights and the tremendous stress that comes with it. The only reason Dana was somewhat mad at GSP was because GSP was talking about taking a break from the sport while still remaining champion, leaving noone able to challenge for the title. Now that GSP has vacated the belt, Dana has no problem with GSP walking away and doing whatever he wants, because the belt can still be fought for. Dana is mad at the judging and refereeing. That's it. Fuck all you pussies hating on Dana White. Bunch of pussies can't handle being told the truth
