At the end of the day though, Aldo was the champ for 6 years. Werdum is a good heavyweight, but him asking for an immediate rematch was kind of silly. But in Aldo's case, it makes sense

That then forces his opponent (Conor in this example) to take a short notice opponent. It's dangerous because they've been training for a specific opponent, and now they've got to scrable to change their stragegy to fight someone else. UFC 189 was a great example. Aldo pulled out, but McGregor wanted to stay for his fans - but he had to fight the top wrestler at 145 to do it. So it was a very risky fight for him. If he lost, he wouldn't have got his title shot. Short notice opponents are dangerous at times. Look at UFC196 for example. I believe McGregor has said this is why he doesn't trust Jose Aldo. He also said it has something to do with Aldo talking shit, saying "I'll fight him at anyweight, any time, anywhere, I don't care about the title" but he turned down the fight at UFC196 on short notice. It's a difficult situation, really.
