Featherweight champion Max Holloway celebrates his birthday with his team, family and a makeshift low-cal cake. Former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk takes recommendations for breakfast orders, featherweight title contender Brian Ortega does interviews, and Holloway poses for the camera. Jedrzejczyk gets her makeup done side-by-side with fellow flyweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko. Then the stars of both title bouts appear at the UFC 231 press conference to sound off and face off. @@RefinedQualia This was a forced matchup. Dana wanted Joana to continue being a star, but after two straight losses at 115, Joana was in a tough spot. She couldn't fight Rose for the third time after losing twice, and everyone else in the division, she has already beaten. So she pretty much had no choice but to go to a different weight class. Jose Aldo is in a similar situation, where he can't fight max for the third time due to losing twice in a row, but everyone else in the division, he has already fought. It is an awkward spot to be in, not quite good enough to be #1, but still better than most everyone else in the division.
