@M Jones I'm not sure. It took her a little while to get going but she was more competitive then I usually see her. Towards the end she was really trying to beat up Maia and normally Valentina lets the other fighter make the first move.

Valentina won her first mma world championship at 15 yrs old. Ridiculous. Master of sport in boxing. Master of sport in judo. Multi time kickboxing champion. Multi time muay thai champion. Multi time k1 champion. 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo. Placing gold since she was 16. On national television since she was 15. Ufc flyweight champion. 4 defenses. This woman is the most accomplished martial artist by far.

Nah, Figgy vs Perez being the main event was the right call. Figgy is one dirty violent man and demonstrated it again. Compared to how the UFC tries promote Amanda Nunes with little success, Val does deserve some more respect from the promotion. That hold a caveat though, if all her fights were entertaining and most had finishes, she'd be super marketable to the point of being a draw. However it seems Zhang is going to steal that spotlight now.

The commentators during the fight are talking it up and everyone latches onto it. Yes, Valentina lost a round, but it's not as if it was a 10-8 round or she had to be helped back to her corner as she was saved by the bell. Like she said there is no panic; remember she as been in that position thousands of times during training. Also she is fighting the best in the world, (it's not boxing), and it's a fight. Come on people, that was a dominant performance in the highest level on the planet for a mma contest.

Joe Rogan likes to play up huge underdogs to make it interesting. I get why he does it but it honestly has become pretty annoying. Especially when Valentina lands like 3 hard shots and Maia barely touches her with a hook and all he says is “WOW AND A HOOK FROM MAIA”
