The UK do support for sports properly, I think it comes from the football/soccer fanbases and the tribalism it breeds. Then, they come together in unity/support of a single athlete but bring the football energy with them. That's my thoughts as to why anyway lol.

What he actually said was "I'm a bit of a perfectionist - I'm never really satisfied with my work. Hopefully on saturday, I can look back and say 'Eh that wasn't so bad'". The main difference in what he actually said and not just thinking he did alright is that he's comparing himself to perfection, not just aiming for alright
