Can't say I am a Belal fan, I'm mostly indifferent towards him but that was a great performance from him. He isn't faster or more technical than Leon, he just fought no fucks given and pressed forward the entire fight. He knew this was going to be the only chance in his career to fight for the championship and he did not squander his one shot. Props to Belal for pulling it off when everyone was hating on him and doubting him.

@@kevan338I think this serves for better reasoning to cut mokaev. The UFC has a tendency to cut young fighters and let them back years later. I think it's got to do with mokaev cheating a couple times in the fight+all the beef that was happening and causing trouble before the fight+and finally the fact that the fight ended up being so boring after all that build up

I wish the reporters had the bollocks to tell him exactly what everyone was thinking. That the Jones fight might not even happen: he could pop again, get arrested, get into a DV situation or tear his pec again. Belal’s takedowns were impressive when he quickly went for the crotch instead of the hips and slammed Leon. Khabib definitely helped Belal with takedowns. Even though Leon’s previous fights looked like he can’t be taken down. But then again he was a little tired because of the rescheduling to American time

So, Dana White himself just confirmed here that the UFCs match makers WILL actually tell fighters that they personally don't like to stop shooting for takedowns/grappling so much or they will not renew their contract. I understand its not the most exciting, fan friendly way to fight, but he has finally admitted the UFC does this to certain fighters that they don't like. Belal Muhammad is lucky he won the fight, because despite him winning all the time, im pretty sure hes always just 1 or 2 losses away from being cut by the UFC. They did everything they could to not give him a title shot, but he just kept winning. Then they figured Leon would make easy work of him, but instead now hes the UFCs Champion. And Dana is pissed. You can see how visibly upset he is.
