It's very hard to lock in that choke from the position Khabib was in. Pure talent.

When Khabib vined and trapped his opponents' legs, he flattened him. And that leg control is what Khabib became famous for -- very rooted in Sambo. You don't see it much in traditional folkstyle or freestyle wrestling, but it's become a very popular technique in combat grappling and MMA now. If there's one "move" that Khabib should be remembered for it's that leg control. World class... like BJ Penn's guard or the Spider's spinning elbow. Hopefully we get to see Khabib vs. St. Pierre in some kind of Flo wrestling/grappling competition at a catch weight before GSP gets too old.

Looking at this fight and despite Khabib having 16 wins before moving to UFC now I understand much better, no matter how good you are, how important is the experience, how much room for improving, I doubt this Khabib would have beaten a top 5 at the time and let me see how crazy it was Khamzat fighting #2 ranked Burns with just 4 UFC fights (and10 prof. fights).

Khabib was 23 here and Khamzat is 29. Big difference in experience. Khamzat is also a different breed of fighter. Khabib plays it safe and smart. That’s why he’s the only fighter to never get a mark on him. Khabib defense was best in UFC. Khamzat also chose to fight Burns that way. He only went out there to bang with Burns. Something Khabib is against. I’m glad that Khamzat and Khabib are talking now. He’s talking some sense into Khamzat.

Khabib is no doubt elite but his striking, pressure and even cardio is so hilarious here, yet he still managed to tie it all together into an awkward little bundle held together by his powerful grappling. I can't believe this dude went from this to standing with the best strikers in the division and making them back away from him walking forward. Crazy power.

Khabib's grappling technique is otherworldly, so he easily makes a couple of takedowns even against the most tenacious strike fighters and that's enough to win because nobody can take him down.

The interesting thing about Khabib is that he's tensing his neck everytime he strikes or is getting striked, tensing makes the neck lot more solid and protected from knockouts, either someone taught him or did it himself, very smart tactic

The evolution is Khabib’s stand up from this point is staggering. If someone had told me after the first round I was watching the greatest lightweight of all time I’d have guessed it would be Shalorus. What Khabib has achieved is incredible.

It's not just the way he improved but the also the way he kept on dominating. I've hardly ever seen a bruise on him let alone bleeding.

@Dead Astrophysicist if you follow him then you definitely have seen bruises on him. But those bruises u see usually at pre-fight conferences and you'll see the same ones post-fight. So you can only imagine what he goes thru in his training camp to make it seem tht easy in the cage lol

His striking was always good. Explosive and dangerous as evidenced by this very first ufc fight. People laughed at his striking against Conor but he caught him with that blistering right hand and bloodied Iaquinta's face with his jab.

@jamesnm21 Mhh kinda sloppy compared to today... now he is really good at striking but in this fight in particular you can see how sometimes he doesn't really know what he is doing regarding the tequniches of the strikes- he is kind of throwing short punches that dont hit anything wichhe wouldn't do now cuz now he is way better

This was one of his tougher fights and back when Khabib really struggled to make weight and Shalorus was quite old.The reason why Shalorus was a tough fight was because he could match Khabib's size.That sadly is the reason Khabib dominated 155 i mean geesh just look at the size of Khabib versus Justin Gaeatje he was much bigger and you know Justin is also over the 155 limit.

Kamal was a decorated wrestler. He used to outwrestle people but here young eagle outwrestled him. Kamal was never submitted before this fight. What a carrer GOAT Khabib.🦅
