@@thepragmaticchoice Well, I know MW is supposed to be 175-185 lbs but I think they agreed to a catchweight (195), as in a mutually agreed upon weight that doesn't adhere to the weight class after Costa claimed he would be unable to make 185. I think 205 is both of their natural weights, so they just didn't cut any weight. Basically, sounds like Costa was just flat out unprofessional and didn't want to cut any weight, electing to forfeit 20% of his pay as a penalty for doing so. It's unfortunate for both Costa and Vettori because the fight will count on their total fight record but since it's now a LHW bout, it won't count on their MW record, which is their division.

I agree with your point, however, while it’s still a rule, it should be followed. To ensure an even playing field. Can’t have one guy making weight and another guy doesn’t have to worry about it. Dropping weight is a huge part of the sport (and I agree it should not be)

@@krispiracy6846 all you gotta do is have the weigh ins right before the match. Simple as that. No one could cut down the way these guys do and then fight. Bc they have little to no water in them. If you do it right before the fight, ppl will just weigh in at their natural weight. It’s very unhealthy what these guys do to make weight. It would be a lot safer for them. Right now what you have is guys making the weight and then going back up between the weigh in and the fight. So the fights taking place with them at a very different weight than what their official weight is.

In fact, this issue probably wasn’t even part of what made the ufc so great. This is just how it’s always been done in any fighting sport.

The are weighing in at the weight they fight at on the night. Im fine with it. Up all the weight divisions and get them fighting at their natural, in shape, weight.

When someone misses weight and the fight gets scrapped or cancelled, the person who made the weight still gets show-up money, they just dont get the opportunity for performance bonuses

@@abdoukiller1512 Correct. These people don't think very clearly. If the weight class is changed that's on the UFC not the fighter that was potentially going to miss weight. Marvin doesn't even give a crap but it's not Costa's fault at the end since it's the UFC that made the final decision.

Both fighters made weight so it's all moot now. People still say Costa is gonna come in heavier, but that would be to any weight they fight at. Bigger fighter is going to put on more weight in 24 hours regardless. Marvin doesn't give a crap anyways. He's not making a big deal out of it. Just really seems like both fighters were kind of confused to me. lol

@@wmp0074 this is t true. Costas camp and himself admitted they weren’t going to make weight. He even admitted his camp concluded “they were not on a schedule that made 185 possible”. Only then was Vettori approached for a catch weight to keep the card intact. It was made at 195. Then, hours later, Costas camp said they wouldn’t be able to make that weight, either. Then it was changed to an entirely different weight class to accomodate this BS. If the ufc asked him not to cut, why would costa suddenly have trouble even making the agreed-upon catchweight? This whole thing is a shit show brought on by Costa. I say this as a former fan of Costa, and having always rooted for him to fulfill the potential and become a force in the division do yo his fighting style. However, this week has been an absolutely epic conflagration.
