That’s not how the scoring criteria says fights are meant to be scored. “Control” against the fence (stalling after a failed takedown) is not meant to contribute to winning a round - only effective grappling (threatening submissions etc.) and damage is what wins the fight.

Man, I love Jose Aldo as much as any long-time MMA fan, but he lost that fight, and it’s on him. Like y’all said, Bautista did nothing, but he did dictate the style of the fight through his efforts. Damage is the top priority in judging, but Aldo did so little that just control, without any takedowns or damage taken, outweighed it. For me as a fan, it’s a damn shame. You have a fan favorite former champion, with the hands of a professional boxer and the legs of a Muay Thai champion, not willing to throw a jab or leg kick. Bautista closed the distance easily every time because Aldo attempted no offense, even while given multiple resets. He could have won this fight with just jabs and leg kicks, but made no attempt to.

Cinnamon Irish Saul v Bumlanga done 650,000 PPV sales and very easy information to find. Try and find the official PPV numbers for UFC 306 which was on the same night and nothing. They scream biggest record gate....well the tickets were at 5,000 dollars at one stage before dropping to 1,000 the last week before the event.....but the PPV numbers..... Nothing.... No public information..... Ponder why! P.S. Danny DDD V AJ sold 96,000 tickets at Wembley. PPV numbers in UK alone were around 850,000......so yeah

Gotta be honest man, I thought Khalil was going to take Alex. And I mean, the first three rounds, felt like Alex was hitting a Rhinoceros. Roundtree Jr. landed some devastating kicks, and Alex took it like a champ. Insane the way Alex mined Khalil's defence. Masterfully done, I mean. Bravo! For both of the fighters. Khalil showed a lot of endurance and definitely gained my respect. Much love for the UFC.

Aldo and Pennington were ROBBED. Pennington shouldn't have lost the belt to Pena, Julianna is not good enough to be a champion and showed that in the final round. Scoring system needs to be changed immediately it's been nothing but a problem for years.

I'm a die hard anderson fan but he didn't fight legit wrestler till Chael. Leben, Franklin, Cote, Marquardt, Henderson, Irvin, Griffin, Okami, and Bonnar are all primarily strikers. The only grapplers her fought were Lutter who was a complete tomato can, Leites who was more strictly BJJ than using wrestling, and Maia before he started even using wrestling when he dropped down to 170. Anderson is my all time favorite fighter but he fought 85% strikers

Brazilian here, my two cents about the Aldo fight. Aldo didn't won that fight, I hate that the win goes to such boring strategy, but the fight was close and Bautista hold Aldo who in turn, never left the brakes of. Eddie Alvarez won his title shot doing the same shit against Pettis, Aljoke "defended" his belt hugging Petr Yan. Truth be told, you are fighting these kind of guys, try to control the fight, turn the freaking engines on and up the volume. Aldo is gun shy for years now and people are still defending him, when he is the one to blame. He had chances in the fight, but he didn't engage. Again I hate what Bautista did, but fighting takes two people, Aldo didn't do his part too.
