Having compassion for your opponent is a strength not a weakness. It takes class to show your opponent respect like that.
@dropthebassline10 жыл бұрын
Dana was basically telling Alex that there was no way he thought he was going to win or come close. He should have just congratulated him and left it at that. Alex put up a WAR, second best to the Sanchez fight this year! Can't wait for the events to finish the year off!!!
@lucky4412410 жыл бұрын
The best part is how Gus is humble... When Dana said they were going to stop it because of his eye & Jon wanted to keep going on. Gus says "He's champ for a reason" That's class!!

Renan Barao is fast becoming one of my fave fighters y know that fight may or may not have been stopped early but when a hard man gets dropped like that by someone like Barao (and both fighters pretty fresh) i reckon the ref did a good job of stopping a lot more damage possibly bein done but surely would like to see these two go the distance against each other was gutted fight ended so soon these lightweight fighters are no lightweights in bringing exciting fights

Fuck it, would cry too. He just went through one hell of a 5 round fight and almost lost. Imagine the emotional rollercoster he was on in that fight. Then came the relief of not losing and then the pain kicks in. A lot of people underestimate how much these guys go through.

Absolutely love Gustafsson. He is such a humble warrior.
@lakeeffectmusicable10 жыл бұрын
So awesome to see Gustafson so humble yet so sad to see that Champion saddened from his loss. Nothing taken away from Jones. I think Jones won it only because Gustafson didn't do enough to finish him BUT, I also do understand those that think Gustafson won cuz Gustafson stuffed all of JJ's takedowns and TOOK JJ down.

I have to watch the fight again, but my initial thought was Gus won 1-3 and was winning 4 until the spinning elbow. But he gained a lot of fans and respect from this fight.
@ACE7Drew10 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Much more technical and just inherently more interesting due to the unlikely challenger exceeding everyone's expectations, and the champion showing heart we didn't know if he had. The Melendez/Sanchez fight while great, was a little overrated.

It was more tense because it was the first time we've ever seen Jones in danger.... and his seemingly untouchable championship was on the line. Sanchez vs Muñoz was just a lightweight bout, and it was also only 3 rounds.
@TheLockon0010 жыл бұрын
Eh, maybe. Gus/Jon was a more important and unexpected fight. However, there were some awkward moments in it, and it stayed almost entirely standing. Gil/Diego had takedowns, reversals, sub attempts, both guys getting dropped, etc. Gus/Jon was far more competitive, though, as Diego did almost nothing aside from that combination in rd 3. I see Pettis/Thompson and Condit/Brown as likely being better than both, though. Also, it seems a lot of people have forgotten about Wanderlei vs Stann.

I think that what happened was that it was proven that Jones skills have a lot to do with his stature and his reach. Against a guy as big and a with a similar reach (and a hunger to win) he had a hard time. I think Jones won even though it was close. Yet at the end of the fight his face shows that his Champion confidence/arrogance had been shaken. Gustaffson clearly deserves a rematch.

It was just a matter of time. Even when Renan jumped off him after the fight was stopped, he was slow to get up. Any longer and he would've taken unnecessary damage.

No they aren't, it was definitely an early stoppage. He landed 2 punches before the fight was stopped. The kick dropped him but that doesn't mean he was out of the fight.
@1112natedawg10 жыл бұрын
Close fight but in my opinion you should always give the champ the nod when its that close. The number one contender should truly win the belt not just barely win a decision. Could have gone either way but I would have given it to Jones. Can't wait for the rematch.

Glover was declared the next number one contender and next to fight Jones even before this fight happened. Dana already announced that Gus will get the next shot at Jones if he wins against Glover anyway.
Gus is a damn warrior and he deserves a rematch. He can be the new champion!

1m 30s People don't realize what we go through to train for fights...the respect two fighters have for one another after a match cannot be understood unless you've done it. It cannot be compared to anything. Best sport on earth. Period.

A fight that is close in my opinion goes to the defender. I am a number one fan of Jones I even put a decent bet on him when final bell went I thought I had lost my money. Watching the fight back though I can see how Jones got the decision.
@adamnchild10 жыл бұрын
Gus won on effective striking but he was done at the end of the 4th, even though he won most of that round. And in the 5th Jones clearly had him wobbled, Gus was running on pure heart. I think the judges saw one fighter land more shots, but the other land as well but almost finished the other fighter with them. Razor thin win for Jones for me, and I wanted Gus to win. 3-2 to JBJ...just!!!
@henrizzays10 жыл бұрын
It was an extremely close fight but anyone who's says otherwise is obviously not giving an honest opinion. Don't hate, give the guys credit for for a great fight. I think the shock factor that Jones didn't totally dominate plays a big part in people's opinions on the outcome. Gus didn't win the fight but he definitely had a win regarding his status which will bring him more sponsors & fans. That's what Dana means when he said they both won.

Gus fought amazingly but he definitely lost-the fight started turning in the 3rd-Jon managed to hurt him a couple of time in the fight but was never hurt by Gus.Also the pace wore the Swede down and he was lucky to survive the 4th,Jone's kicking game and variety of techniques was the difference ultimately-he's just the better fighter.

It's not cockiness. It's confidence accrued from absolutely destroying every opponent you've ever faced. Like GSP, he'll have his day where he gets beaten hard and then you will see a new Jon Jones.

good point, mma judges generally speaking are quite incompitent.
@Smoochy4410 жыл бұрын
Well first, wins and losses aren't determined by who took the most damage at the end of the fight. It's a sport with rules and a scoring system, not a slugfest in the street. And just for the record, Gustafsson went to the hospital in a stretcher as well, it was just after Jones limped his way there, and not on camera.

I thought Gustavsson won as well, but maybe it is a good thing that champions get a score advantage. A champion should be beaten definitely. I just hope Jones doesn't beat Anderson's record. Maybe on a later run I can accept it and be happy, but I want his current run to end. And end soon.

Dana already arranged for Teixeira to get the next crack at Jones. We're gonna have to wait for that and for Gus to beat Lil Nog and potentially DC to be guaranteed another shot at the belt.
@tysswe110 жыл бұрын
Dana to Gus: You loose nothing in this fight....then he gets a fighter who is not even ranked in the top ten. How serious can you take the ufc when they let a guy ranked outside the top 10 fight the fighter ranked decond in after jon jones? Its a joke. They dont care about fighters, they just hopes he wins so they can squeeze all money out of a rematch. Fucking snakes.
@turdferguson530210 жыл бұрын
Dana White is a smart guy. He wants to put fights together that will get a lot of buys. Jones vs Gustafsson 2 will sell a lot of fucking ppv's. Jones didn't want to give him an immediate rematch which is fair, I don't even think Anderson should have gotten an immediate rematch, it's not fair to the rest of division. Jones and Gustafsson both coming off of victories over other guys at lhw imo will sell more than the immediate rematch would. The only thing that may fuck things up is if Glover beats Jones which is very possible, Glover is a tank.
@Krofius10 жыл бұрын
The plan is that both Jones & Alex fight around the same time. If both of them win, they will rematch. If Alex wins and Jones loses, then Alex would obviously face Glover. Alex is just gonna fight 1 fight and if he wins it he'll fight for the title regardless of who has it.
@scawfan110 жыл бұрын
Exactly. He asked him what he thinks he was better than him at. You just said that he said an uppercut. If I was Jones, judging off of both of our past performances, I probably would've said the same thing. I'd believe I had a better overall stand-up game because of my reach and my creativity. I'd think I had better wrestling because of how I dominated what everyone considered to be one of the best wrestlers in MMA in Chael Sonnen. I'd believe I had better jiu jitsu because of the amount of subs

Anyone commenting on any of these fighters' being "bitches", or losers.... stop, go upstairs... and take a nap. Giving your expert opinion on a UFC fighter without having fought professionally is the same as heckling a marathon runners' stride length from your table at McDonalds.
