In Australia the first fox show was on free to air tv, not cable or satellite. UFC on fox one was actually free for the whole country not just people who have cable. Maybe they should try and do that again.

Fedors last fight was on Showtime. Can't really compare the two. But Fedor/Rogers was on CBS and it got better numbers.

The answer is the same as for the question "how do they know how many people watched the show?" If they know how many people watched the show then there must be some sort of link between each household with tv reception and the ratings company. They probably have information for each household such as age of licence holder...etc.

I actually would take Dave Meltzer's opinions on anything over most people. That's in MMA, Wrestling, Pro Sports, Amateur Sports, opening a fancy delicatessen, you name it. Plus, what Dana doesn't mention is that Dave actually mentioned the Avengers and Cinco De Mayo in his article. No one's saying the UFC is going down but, and this is the fact, the rating wasn't good. Plus, Spurs Vs Jazz was not really a competitive match. It was 1 seed vs 8 seed and a foregone conclusion (sorry Jazz fans)

Tell them like it is, Dana. Media needs to support the sport, not bash on the same sport they're covering. Makes sense to me. MMA is a young and growing sport, but the media, seriously needs to become more professional when covering it.

Ok, since you know so much....explain to me how they know this? Do they insert cameras in televisions? I understand they know the age of the property owner and the age of the cable subscriber. In my case, i am not the property owner and not the cable subscriber either. He is over 50 and does not live here. I am no where near 50. My wife, son and I are the only ones here to watch the TV. So, every time we watch tv, the networks think its the property owner that is watching the TV? Right?

If the cost is lower than what are you complaining about? If you like online stream since it's cheaper than get that. I never pay to watch PPV. I got to a bar local that charges no cover and orders the PPV legally. There are options out there if you don't want to pay $45-55

It's a basic truth about TV, that younger audiences are more desirable for tv companies. If you attract a young audience with one of your shows, you'll have them along with you for many years to come. Also, they're the "loud segment" who blog and spread word about their favorite shows. And what more, they're also the demographic that spends the most money on merchandise and PPV. That's why it matters.

Dave lost his job at Yahoo because Yahoo severely cut MMA coverage. This says more about UFC's current popularity than it does Dave's ability to analyse them.

i did. All i found was that they know the age of the property owner and the age of whoever is in charge of the cable account. Therefore, most regular television (non cable) viewers are believed to be over 50, since they are the property owners. Most younge ppl dont own a house. They rent and pay for cable and order pay per view. Thats how they think that ppl that watch shark tank and NCIS are over 50. which is not the case.
