I just learned Yoshihiro Takayama suffered a spinal cord injury awhile back and is paralyzed from the neck down. Don Frye's message to him was incredible: “Takayama-san, God gave me the greatest opponent anybody could ever ask for, you. You made the greatest fight the world has ever seen. You are the reason that our fight beat the World Cup of soccer head to head on TV. You are the image of Bushido and strength and triumph. You are the first person everyone asks about when they meet me. You are the warrior we all look to be."

This is pure primal art, 2 men, not relying on techniques, not relying on defense. The most primal, most manly, most aggressive fight ever created. 2 men, No defense, no dodging, no blocking, just 2 men hitting each other until the other goes down. It’s horrible but it is also beautiful.

This remains the Manliest Fight in recorded human history. These two are absolute *beasts* and just watching this fight will increase a man’s testosterone by at least ten points and will help you grow a majestic mustache. If my wife told me that she fantasizes about Don Frye and/or Takayama I wouldn’t even be mad. Takayama has the heart of a lion, and I pray for his continued recovery. I hope that he gets to live for many happy years; if anyone can come back from that sort of injury it is Takayama!

@@hinglemccringleberry9138 Hmm 🤔 Kimo Leoplda vs Gracie. Frankly a lot of early UFC as in UFC 1-10.Butterbean vs Cabbage (MMA). The unsanatized erra of was (braudly speaking) was legend. Their is no way in hell a guy like Tank Abbot who is proud to be drunk most of the time would be let into the big 3 these days. UFC now would take a hard pass just on his unwillingness be sober and add in (alagedly) having "low testosterone" TRT to help (alagedly), would be the other reason. in the sanatized erra Chael Sonnen would be very unlikely being a CEO of EPO. He could cut a promo, but once he wasn't aloud on juice his performance went to shit. Same a lot of the legends of this erra (looking at you Viktor Greacy) Gracie and Shamrock (the popular one) was legendary as well. It's now why you aren't aloud to lay and pray. even though everyone does lol.

Dan Sevren, tank abbot, and Don Frye, all on the same card? no way in hell is that kind of thing happening these days unfortunately. I was thinking the same thing. He would have been unstoppable if he'd begun with boxing instead of other martial arts. Plus, his height put him at a severe disadvantage when standing toe to toe and throwing like that. His long arms simply needed more room to deliver their full power. Keeping him close and trading like that was a good strategy, as he could only punch at 50-75% efficiency.

Another thing that makes this even more amazing is just how loud the crowd was. Japanese audiences are usually quiet during a performance or match, even in MMA, since its considered rude to the people on stage. But even they couldn't help but go wild after seeing this.

And you can tell the crowd appreciated it, too. It's amazing because Japanese crowds are usually very respectful and quiet, but when they saw the unmitigated war going on between Frye and Takayama, they couldn't help but lose their cool. I have no idea how Takayama remained conscious. He gave as much as he got, but his skull was in pieces - shattered. I don't know if it was a difference in bone density, or maybe Don's punches were just faster or from better trajectories, but the damage to Takayama's skull would have killed any other man. What a battle. It's so terrible that either of these men ever had to fight again - they should have both been able to permanently retire after a fight like this. Ambo gladiatores sunt.
@faxenmacher4633
@faxenmacher4633 2 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest difference in the result was compound damage: Takayama hit different parts of the body whereas Don almost entirely focused his strikes one side of his opponent's jaw. I can't imagine how painful it would feel to keep fighting under those circumstances. Takayama has an unbreakable spirit.
@TheDancerMacabre
@TheDancerMacabre 2 жыл бұрын
Takayama was a (catch) wrestler while Don was an MMA fighter. Takayama had little to no combat sport experience and was essentially a card filler for a freakshow fight. But since the first three matches on the card sucked the energy out of the audience; Takayama went up to Don with a gentleman's agreement. Let's wake up this crowd and go for broke. Don thought Takayama was crazy, but this was going to be Frye's last fight with Pride FC, and said "fuck it, i'm in" (Pride renewed Don's contract after this fight with a massive bonus) So not only did Takayama survive it, he asked for it to entertain the crowd.

Well, maybe Takayama has a secret superpower we don't know about - like an indestructible skull made of vibranium or adamantium. Or maybe he just has a really thick head, both literally and figuratively. I mean, the guy took so many hits to the dome, he could probably audition for a role in a zombie movie without any makeup. But seriously, watching two warriors like Takayama and Don Frye battle it out is like watching a medieval joust - except with more blood and less horses

Absolute respect shown for one of the best fights ever. After the Takayama injury, Frye went to go see him and told him how much he means to him. Even Frye is messed up. Those 2 soldiers but their body on line for everyone to remember.

takayama is a fucking warrior just plowing through those barrages of punches and dishing so much out. the definition of a fighter and a legend, major inspiration to many as i have seen. many of us can only dream of this much heart and spirit in ones soul.

Best fight in history. The sportsmanship at the end when Frye slaps him on the chest and his opponent raising his hand is the etiquette of champions. Extraordinary act of masculinity and violence.
