In 2023 we’ve seen: Jim Miller, Bobby Green and Tim Means get finishes over younger guys, Matt Brown and Robbie Lawler get great KO’s, and now Edson Barboza get an amazing hard fought comeback win. It’s the year of the OG’s!

@jayboi7565 He’s at the end of his prime, and Edson is well past it. Very impressive. Just pointing out that the race grifter isn’t a 20yo prospect, he’s at the end of his prime. Pushing far past 30 and achieving success is only for very rare fighters. Useleff ain’t that guy.

@BamOuttaDaBayou Declining natural test levels, changing brain chemistry. We become slower and more cautious as we age, our subconscious causes us to hesitate. Special fighters can go mid-late 30’s, this guy isn’t special. It’s a young man’s game.

I like edson and always root for him but he has many holes in his striking. He’s technical sure but his defense is sus, predictable, and seriously lacks killer instinct and fight iq. Its like he learned nothing from the kevin lee fight. He hurts his opponents with kick then tries to grapple with them letting them recover instead throwing the kitchen sink.

Possibly one of...if not THE...best fighter to never hold a belt. A legend and still getting it done at this age. Can't miss his fights.

Prime Rory would stomp out prime Edson 10/10 times. He never held a belt. 19 year old Rory beat prime tyron woodley so badly that woodley took 18 months off and cried about racism being the reason he didn’t get a title shot, instead of accepting that a 19yo without a wrestling background MUTILATED him on the feet AND on the ground. Woodley threw 3 strikes in 3 rounds. It was one of the most humiliating beat downs I’ve seen in the sport. Many exceptional fighters never held belts.

@@samblack5313It is a shame that Rory has that brutal fight with Lawler. I've never seen a fight where both guys had flat noses by the end of it, with Rory clearly getting the worst of it. He embarrassed Nate Diaz too; I think he suplexed him 4 times or something crazy. It looked like a WWE match!

That wasn't timing, casual. That was Yussuf misreading the wheel kick to the body instead of the head. As you can see he braced for the body shot, not the head shot.

The only fighter in the UFC to finish two consecutive fights by leg kick TKO. Most of his finishes are very unique, too. His striking technique is just perfect. Especially the kicks. He deserves to be in the UFC HOF.

May be a controversial opinion but I think Edson’s had a UFC run that’s on par with Anthony Pettis. I know Pettis got the belt and beat quality fighters but it was otherwise an inconsistent career.

@@predition7714the fact he was close to a title shot just through fighting Khabib who was ranked No 2 at the time and him being ranked 4 speaks to levels of how good he was at his best. He just lacked trying to build his other skills up but he was potentially on track to fight for a title atleast once

He doesn't give up and keeps puttin forth maximum effort no matter what. That can't be taught.
