Yeah, when you slow it down you can see his hand is open for the duration of the eye poke moment, so definitely not a knuckle to the eye. Really poor victory.

And he should have stopped it not passively watching a guy not defending himself get knocked out with that stupid look on his face. It irked me watching this.

The eye poke was unintentional and you must fight till the ref says stop. So the fault is completely with Herb Dean not the fighter who was doing his job - fighting.

U even see the guy shrug and then attack an opponent who he knew he had just eye poked, whether the ref saw it and stopped it or not, he knew it was legit, shrugged it off, and took advantage of the situation, he could have chosen to acknowledge the poke to Herb, I've seen this done and it's the sportsman thing to do, this dude has terrible character, I don't back fighters who lack integrity, and in it's place is the judgement call to punch the blind opponent that he knowingly just fouled...

@@arturofm1477 those are heavyweights my guy, not an apples to apples comparison in regards to the threat of "getting caught" but my point remains, when u know u illegally poked a guy in the eye, accident or not, u don't blitz them while they are blind and asking for his time but not getting it based on the red not seeing it, and ur not gonna get snuck if u maintain distance and defense during the opponents recovery, in reality u tell the ref, and he formally stops the action, a fighters admittance is just as good as the ref seeing it for himself

I dont like it. After showing problem with an eye (eyepoke in this case) ref should pause the fight and investigate. Torres not respecting this and proceeding with strikes is unacceptable imho.

When shit like this happens and the ref doesnt step in, it makes people take the UFC less seriously as an organization. Any other ref would have paused the fight after that eye poke. It makes rule enforcement look super inconsistent (it is) and it makes people who are skeptical wonder how this kind of stuff could happen and if it's being intentionally done because the fights are (possibly) fixed. Anytime something like this happens it means the UFC is failing it's athletes imo, and they are treating them as disposable.

What are you talking about dude? It doesn't make anyone take the UFC less seriously. The only person that shouldn't be taken seriously is YOU for believing a fighter can fake being eye poked in the middle of a FIGHT and the ref has to save him from being finished. That's not how things work and your misunderstanding of the rules is on nobody but you. There was no eye poke. It's clear that there was no eye poke.

Well said. But also, where's the respect between fighters. I get "the heat of the moment" but that only goes so far. I'm pretty fucking present mentally when I'm fighting/sparring someone, so I think I'd be aware and empathetic enough to not act like I don't see someone alleging an eyepoke. And blatant illegal strikes are inexcusable

Yes you're right he was being backed up but honestly he wasnt being lit up or anything, sure Torres was setting the pace with a lot of shots, but he wasnt landing a massive amount, he certainly didnt have his man hurt. I think it's unfair that his opponent lost this fight after only being hurt by illegal blows.

we have fighters like Chandler who don't land an unnecessary shot on a Tony who f***ed him up in the first round, a fighter whom Chandler has repeatedly said he's lowkey scared of, or someone like Gaethje who never lands an extra shot on his KO'd opponent and even gets in a fight with the referee that makes him land extra shots on Cowboy and then we have a guy like this who'd happily finish a blinded opponent with no remorse, there's levels to how classy a fighter can be and the top of Lightweight Division is full of them(Chandler, Gaethje, Poirier, Oliveira, etc)
