There were 7 medalists and 1 champion from Dagestan across the 10 freestyle weight classes. There were 10 medalist and 3 champions from the US. We still win by that metric but for a population of just 3 million their success in the sport is crazy

Two super impressive fighters, can't wait. I don't think either guy hesitated a second to accept the challenge. The attitude of both guys is awesome. Interesting to see how the lack of home ground "advantage" affects Volk. Maybe it is better, less distractions. Who knows? I am glad Olivera pulled out. This is a much more interesting fight.

Tbf Volk and Charles are both pressure fighters with strong grappling. Islam isn’t at as much of a disadvantage as Volk who is out of camp and was looking to fight Tuporia who is more boxing based. But a great man once said “the best takedown is a left hook” who also won the title to someone he lost to in a little over a week notice

I wouldn't be surprised if Volk was walking around at around 155 anyway, I don't think weight will be an issue for him. If anything he can really eat whatever he wants leading up to this fight without a weight cut. It's a really short notice fight, but he does have some time to get his weight right and be comfortable. I would write most other lightweights off (let alone a featherweight) taking a fight against Islam with such short notice, but Volk is probably the only one I know who will be in top form coming into it.

It's sad that Charles is out, for me it would have been a more interesting fight in the sense that regardless of the outcome, you know someone would be finished. Most likely Charles? Sure, but there's always a chance, even if it's small. Much respect for Volk, but I don't think he finishes Islam and I don't think Islam finishes Volk so my prediction is it will be another decision. Interesting fight? For sure, but still a decision.

@@WhiteBeard640 It's not true at all, though. Besides the fight with Islam, Charles last loss was 5 years ago, and since then he was hurt many times before going on to finish his opponent. The guy's from the favelas, and as a kid was told he couldn't play sports and may never walk again due to medical conditions. In his modern incarnation he's one of the mentally strongest guys in the sport. I'd love to see him take on Volk.

I like Charles but I just don't see him winning could land a shot or catch him in a submission so it's possible but I definitely would rather see the rematch woth volk cause that's the first time we've seen one of these guys not dominate since tibau and I wouldn't consider khamzat apart of this group he's from the different area but burns is also a bad dude

Islam was "GASSED" in the first fight - he had nothing left & he is the bigger man that was supposed to run through Volk by taking him to the ground and then "it would be over" Volk may knock him out this time. He deserves some credit for going up a weight class to challenge for that belt as he has dominated his own division. Interested to see if Islam tries to go up a class

Would've loved to see Bobby Green step in and get his revenge against Islam. He just knocked out a crazy hyped prospect in 30 seconds and proved he is a legit contender for that strap. He fought Islam on a day's notice, didn't train for crotch sniffing, and had a bad weight cut. Next time the result will be different I can promise that.

Charles had said many times he didnt want to fight Islam in Abu Dhabi. Seems a lil sus but who cares most of us would rather see this fight. Now Paulo is out also. Going to be interesting to see at what weight come fight night regardless what they say until then.
