If you go out and then drop your opponent, knocking him out in the process and thus releasing the choke and wake back up, then you're able to continue fighting. Carlos wasn't able to continue fighting. Legit win for Hughes. If that were a fight in the street what do you think happens after Hughes wakes up? No robbery here.

Damn, Matt was out but Big John wasn't even looking at him and didn't even realize Matt was out too! He was only looking at Newton and trying to figure out if Newton was out. Matt got away with one there. Took him a while to wake up and realize he just won.

I been saying that for years. Matt was out also. You can see from another angle his hand goes limp and then he flexes it before the fight is called. Should have been a no contest or allowed to continue.

@@Bluepickles333 when the fight was stopped Matt could keep fighting, not for long but he was still conscious and aware of the fight. Carlos was sleeping on his back from that slam. He had that triangle in deep and could have had Matt asleep sooner but he also tried to cheat holding onto the cage (this is back in the day tho when rules are really wish wash) but that’s a win for Matt

@@no_name9825 Hughes started to black out which caused him to buckle and go down. He didn’t appear to be fully unconscious yet though. Also Newton grabbed the cage to prevent the slam and tighten up the choke so its hard to say who “technically” won

@@amzofficial8868 yeah, he went out first and slumped down but it looked like he tried slamming Carlos but since Matt went limp it was all dead weight onto Carlos’s back/back of head and knocked him out instantly also and his legs loosened up when he went out and you can see Matt’s arms are limp also and he wakes up because the choke got released and is confused. I know now days theirs a rule for something like this only if they get knocked out at the same time I believe whoever gets up first or if one of them can get up first possibly wins idk how true that is tho

People forget how much of a beast Carlos won. Yea his record doesn’t look great at first glance but if you take another look, he had some amazing submissions and wins against tough opponents. All his losses came from absolute beasts, Matt Hughes, Anderson Silva, the literal Gracie Hunter, and Dan Henderson

Saw many fights and this one is the first where a ko’ed fighter has his eyes closed, doctors have to tape patients eyes in surgeries is another example comes to mind, high possibility that it was staged/fixed which was pretty common in the early days of mma

Carlos was out cold & unable to continue. Hughes was likely 1/2 out but first to sit, then stand up & able to fight if necessary. Legitimate WIN for Hughes no matter how much “casual’s” pout… 😂!

Hughes was out, that's why he was confused over the fact he won. It's not based on "can you get up and continue", plenty of fighters get knocked out and recover after a couple of seconds. Using "casual" is lame af by the way.

Matt was not in disbelief. He was choked out from the triangle. When his body collapsed they both dropped. In my opinion this should be a win for the other guy because Matt went out first. He was clearly out. It’s also bullshit he could not hold onto the cage. The ref basically said “let go so you can get slammed on your head.” A win for the other guy or a no contest.

Hughes was out there for sure, limp palms, no movement right after the slam, untill a shock seems to wake him up a second or so later, both guys were difinitely out at the moment of impact from the slam
