Long before anyone understood what mixed martial arts was, Pat Miletich was combining karate, kickboxing, boxing, wrestling and submissions into what was perhaps the sport’s first truly well-rounded fighting style. Watch the full episode of Pioneers of MMA featuring UFC Hall of Famer Pat Miletich on UFC FIGHT PASS:

Pat gave me my 1st lesson when he was an Assistant at Nick Tarpein's, and i followed him to Ultimate Fitness & Champions Gym after that in the 90s. He dominated everyone he fought for years. The first time I saw him fight was at Battle of the Masters back when the sport was totally unregulated (think Bloodsport) & I knew he was a future Hall of Famer then. The 13 people who thumbs-downed this video need to get their asses off their mama's couch and leave her basement once in a while & get a handle on life. Pat was more than a Pioneer, he created some of the best fighters the World has ever seen.

Sean Spencer is a bum, he lost fair and square, dude is 3-3 in the UFC, and won all 3 by decision, his first coming from a split decision bullshit call. Nobody's talks about it, because the US sucks black nuts.

***** He did not whoop him, he dropped him in the first, so that's the win for everyone, he did nothing, this is an mma fight, and Pendred outscored him, simple. Spencer robbed another dude, nobody gives a fuck, hmm, i wonder why...

I think Gene Lebell should be mentioned here. We always correlate MMA with UFC but Gene did it first. For me Royce was great but the first time i saw MMA was "King of the Streets" Marco Ruas, just a total package, I had never seen someone be able to combine stand-up, takedowns, judo, jiu-jitsu all in one. Before that everyone I saw, even Royce, were all specialists. And that was what really got me in.

Yes, there were well rounded dudes like Frank Shamrock before Pat and in the mix during his time in the limelight. I mean we could talk about how far ahead of the game Chuck Norris was in the 1980's training with the Machados if we wanted to. Same with Bruce, to a degree. But the point is Pat put it all together into a sleek steam machine that dominated the entire "Dark Ages" of the UFC, defended his belt against arguably the best in the world four times and passed his legacy on to the greatest welterweight of all time before GSP. That's the point.
@Boredoutofmywits
@Boredoutofmywits 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Chuck Norris trained with the Machados when they were in High School... And Bruce Lee, that MAYBE has one real fight in his life, and even that is debatable.

You want a pioneer of MMA? Fedor Emelianenko, went to a 30-fight unbeaten streak, earned his nickname as "The Giant Killer", Vladimir Putin's homie, made former UFC heavyweight champions look like rookies, Russian, didn't need to go to the UFC to be called a legend.
