Still one of my favourite fighters of all time. Shogun was electrifying the world in Pride. His stomps and soccer kicks were some of the best ever. His grand prix win was the stuff of legends and I'm glad to have been able to witness the magic of this man. The final chapter of the pride fighters are slowly closing but they will never be forgotten.

Damn. I'm almost the same age as Shogun and watched most of his fights throughout his career. It feels like I'm retiring as well and feel a sadness that one of my favorite fighters is hanging up his gloves. May GOD bless you and keep you young always Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.😢

@@davidgaskins2589 hahaha actually I boxed for a season for the Marine Corp and did many underground fights when I was a MCMAP (Marine Corp Martial Arts Program) instructor as well as saw action in the middle east when I was part of F.A.S T. (Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team) Company so yes I felt the sadness of Shogun hanging up the gloves only difference is most of my fighting was for life and not for points or a belt. Edit: I actually know what he's saying goodbye to. The comraderie, the brotherhood, and all the good Marines I know I would never train with or see again. But in his case his fellow teammates and gym and the fans. The fans part I know nothing about! 😂

Man, Shogun Rua was my first favourite fighter, back when I started watching MMA as a 12 year old kid in 2009! It was right around the time he lost to Lyoto Machida, then won the title in the rematch, before losing it to Jon Jones. Absolutely loved watching his older fights in Pride, it was what got me into Pride in the first place, the way he demolished Rampage Jackson in the thai clinch is still one of my favorite performances in MMA. Holy shit how time flies... This guy is an absolute legend

Man I watched this guy's career from the start. When he first burst onto the scene in pride and destroyed Shoji. Then moved up the ranks taking out top guys and winning the Pride GP. Then came to the UFC and had that tough debut loss against Forrest, but he still rebounded and got to the top winning the UFC title. The guy has done it all...no shame in hanging them up at this point.

Watching Shogun was what got me into MMA & combat sports as a teenager. Aspiring to be as violent as Shogun was in Pride was what led me to step into the cages and rings that I've fought in. Shogun will always be my favorite fighter.

I’ve been a shoguns fan since 2005 - he an MMA legend, icon and pure martial artist. I'm sad to see him retire and end an era in PRIDE FC, as he was the last pride fighter to end their career in the UFC. I wish shogun happiness and success in the future. I'm not a fan of Shogun but he is one of the OGs that put MMA on the map. These guys fought around the world and they fought when there was no fame and money in it, they fought for PRIDE and GLORY.

I was at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ the night he lost to Jon. So much has changed in my life, but this man has continued to fight. Respect. He was the best fighter in the world for a small period of time, but he was there.
