He insulted Mayweather in every conceivable way - that's his style; that's how he markets himself and sells fights. But we all know how that ended; McGregor was humiliated and taught a lesson. After the fight we saw a humble and deflated McGregor, gone was the loud mouth & swagger. He was clearly beaten in both mind & spirit. That's the reason he's been gone for so long; he's been healing those deep wounds to his ego and pride; he's been rebuilding his self confidence. What better way to market a fight when you're off the radar and fallen out of the public's eye - and interest to a certain degree after the Mayweather humiliation - than to engineer a WWE style situation that 'appears' so real that it instantly attracts the publics attention and acts as a powerful seedbed to market a mega money 'Grudge match'. All the bullshit you hear in this press conference is an attempt to deter people from believing this whole situation was engineered. The stuff about his dad etc was a powerful tool of misdirection, but that's all it was. The trouble with the Police and the associated law suits are all factored into the 'Plan'; the money generated from this fight will dwarf the compensation payments McGregor will eventually have to pay out. McGregor knew his status would ensure he wouldn't go to prison but the legitimate threat of imprisonment and the public perception of that would ensure this fight was perceived as a genuine and potentially explosive encounter which is the perfect recipe for selling out venues and pay-per-view coverage. It's a total con in my opinion and they're all in on it. A few insults are easily digested and accepted when you're getting $20 million for a few minutes work. Believe it if you want, but I personally think it's just another marketing swindle.
