Damn. This was a sick episode! Australia is such a beautiful country to build up to a massive PPV for the visuals and for the fighters themselves. Good to see Islam's English has improved so much his humour translates over so well and it was so good to see Volk jumping into the Lambo ready to be flown out on a PJ to go and take the Lightweight belt from one of the most feared men in the sport with his team, one big main mission. For both Islam and Volk they have both worked tirelessly to be in this position and it's good to see them both relaxed and enjoying life - this ones going to be fun!

Thats his best weapon I think. He isn't intimidated and doesn't underestimate his opponent. Lack of those two things are what screwed all of Islams other opponents.

@@MarcoH2302 I think that’s why everyone is so excited about this fight because we have the chance to witness the impossible happen even though it’s almost certain it won’t, but obviously there’s a chance to witness it. That’s why I am very excited. Just to see him possibly win. If not, I agree I hope it lasts at least three rounds, and makes it a good fight.

i'm sure there's lots we don't see behind the scenes, and that most fighters training regimens are ridiculously difficult, but the one i recall being craziest was gilbert burns'- and here, volk's looks to be similarly difficult.

I remember watching Burns' training session. I got exhausted watching it, man's an extremely hard worker. Its a great indicator that these MMA fighters are not normal people, they're built different from the rest of us.

Man these are such good fights. Volk is looking like a beast. He really wants it. And you gotta love the whole Dagestani team. They are all such hard working fighters. What a great headliner. Josh Emmett is looking crisp too. The striking in that fight is going to be next level.

I'll say the same thing I said on the lead up to Gaethje/ Nurmagomedov fight. Justin was extremely confident in his "Folkstyle" wrestling. He constantly trained getting up and out after being taken down. I said if he's not training to do this without 1 arm or with his legs stuck together, it means nothing. You can't train regular wrestling techniques. The Daggie boys have been taught not only to take down but to immobilize a limb or limbs WHILE their on their way down. That's a completely different situation. When I see an opponent training like that, I'll up their chances of winning. Volk used to be much bigger, sure, but he's about to face the FASTEST and most Technical takedowns in the sport. He might get lucky and get out of 1 or 2 but after 2nd takedown, it's pretty much an inevitability

When's the last time Gaethje actually wrestled though? He fell in love with blocking punches with his face and swangin' and bangin'. Volk has that dog in him very few fighters do have and none of the Dagestani boys have fought that kind of fighter.

@Mandu 666 He was NCAA Wrestler and has wrestled since he was 4 or 6? Cant remember exact age but he was very young like Khabib. That was one of his biggest "skills". Sure he didn't actively wrestle but that was by choice. Before Khabib he had one of the highest takedown defense percentages in the UFC. That was all from his wrestling growing up. So wrestling has definitely played a large part in his MMA career and success. His comments before the fight were that Khabib hadn't fought any "folkstyle" wrestlers before and his wrestling would be the ultimate defense against Khabib.

@@my11badkids78 if you don't do something regularly you lose it. Sure it might be good enough against non wrestlers. It becomes more procedural. You know what do do it something is happening, you focus on it and do it. For guys like Khabib or Islam who are doing it almost every day for last 25 years it becomes natural. No thinking, just doing as things are happening. Understanding balance is on next level

I remember listening to a UFC Unfiltered podcast around 4-5 years ago and at the time Volk was ranked somewhere around #7 I think, and he was saying he deserved a title shot. I thought to myself that this dude is waaay to high on himself but man Volk has changed my mind, He’s the real deal. The Holloway trilogy was great, I think there’s an argument to be made about Holloway winning the second fight but Volk put a stamp on things in the third fight. Much respect to the FW Champ.

@Typharius it's not that bad Honestly. More just a meme gotten out of control. 90% of people live in the large coastal cities of the south and have never had an encounter with anything dangerous. There's deadly snakes in lot of the world. Crocs are only found way up north. And there's no dangerous large land predators. Australia is pretty tame compared to many African and Asian counties by comparison. Now book that ticket and get going lol

This fight is so good because both men are at their peaks and are putting a lot on the line. Most fighters wouldn't take this fight, that's what makes it so good. May the best man win, and may the loser hold his head high for being there in the first place.

I didnt know Josh emett was so chill and articulate, nothing more scary that someone who can have a switch '' on/off'' ,for me thats the main caracteristic of a true champion : nice and soft on the first look... than when the cage close, they show their demons (Khabib, usman, ngannou, izzy, gsp, mighty mouse, volkanosky, islam, max, poirier, gaetchi ....)

Man Islam Makachev vs Volk in Australia at UFC 284 was a true classic. A real back and forth war, masterclass performance by both. My favorite fight of 2023. Hard to believe it’s been 2 years now, time flies!!!
