sorry boys but this version of "what it means to be a martial artist" is the product of the 1970s commercialization of mcdojos and karate movies. there were 10,000 different cultures with 10,000 different "sets of values". many of them valued killing and seeking duels to the death, etc. Im not saying you should value that, but you absolutely SHOULD stop pretending you know what "it means to be a martial artist in the truest sense". because there never was a single "truest sense". and the sense you were taught is a very watered down, neutered version based more on making martial arts fit within consumer societies that have made personal combat illegal. many masters of many different martial arts would have all rejected your very values and ideas of what a martial artist should be. not to mention your very way of life, lol.

I think perhaps CM is taking the: slow and steady, build these guys from the ground up approach to build their fundamentals. These are begginers versing vets if I remember correctly. You can't reach advanced levels of skill overnight unfortunately. CM could take the approach of looking at the fighters opponent and breaking down their weakpoints and training up the fighter to defend their opponents strengths and capitalize on their weaknesses but truthfully begginers need to learn and losing is part of growing before winning first IMO if you're a begginner. Taking a few L's this early in their career isn't the worst thing in the world. How you grow after an L is much more important a skill to learn. Wining and moving on is mentally easier. Also CM has to balance his own training out. It was smart of him to bring in wonderboy. He's a technical striker, like CM with the same high energy, just much less distractions going on and has already got a life time of experience teaching and coaching. Also, CM needed to rally their moral after the loss. Wonderboy's disposition is amazingly uplifting.
