Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker secured the interim title back in 2017 at UFC 213 after he prevailed in a back-and-forth battle with Yoel Romero. Whittaker faces middleweight champion Israel Adesanya next in a rematch bout at UFC 271 on Saturday, for the middleweight belt.

Izzy's fight IQ is top-notch. He's not a "human punching bag" that will just be stationary while getting hit it, he's smarter than that. Have you seen the movie matrix? That will give you an idea of how to fight "hit & don't get hit". If Whitaker fights Izzy this way, just launching out recklessly with his chin exposed like that, it's "gone baby gone", he will find his range in round 1 & pick him apart in round 2 for the win. That's called fighting smart & not fighting hard. Brain supersedes brawn always

I see a lot of Izzy likes to 'run' in the comment section; I guess this is because he does not like to stand in the pocket and trade. But why on earth will anyone with the clinical striking ability and IQ of Adesanya at range, stand in the pocket and bang? It makes no sense! When he can stand at range, pick people apart while also protecting his ring longevity and his overall health. If your fortunate to have the gift that Adesanya has, you'd be a fool to get in the cage and trade punches.

Well, it makes the fights a bit boring. Izzy has a long reach advantage over many of his opponents in the MW division. So, it's a lot like what Jon Jones used to do. Mix World Class skills with physical advantages and never really take the risk. I know everyone loves Izzy, But I am vouching for Whitaker this time. Let's make this interesting.
@bonkling
@bonkling 3 жыл бұрын
UFC fans are just dumb as hell. I mean, why risk your belt just to entertain some potatoes that have no idea about fighting. That's like Khabib opting for a striking battle when he can just ragdoll and submit you. The issue with Izzy, is that opponents don't know what to do with him. Costa and Romero usually throw bombs and go hard, but they both stood like statues against Adesanya because he's too long, too skilled, and his feints leave them with no clue what he's going to do. When people fight him properly they get KO'd.

Robert's wars with Romero definitely took a toll on him. Get that rematch, Bobby Knuckles. In the spirit of McGregor-Poirier 2.

Whittaker had a very peculiar championship run. Never won the undisputed title. He was promoted to undisputed champ after bisping ducked him Never had an official successful title defense because romero missed weight.

He was actually promoted to undisputed bc GSP retired. Sad bc style wise robert is a nightmare for GSP and that win would have been HUGE for him

@@bobbob-cd9yl bisping as the undisputed champ next fight was supposed to unify the belt. Dont know if you remember bisping going to the cage and slamming his belt down in front of whittaker. Bisping took the easy way out.

@@MuhGlassRibs ??? you said rob became undisputed champ because bisping ducked him. When he fought for the interim, then GSP became champ but never defended it vs Rob

@@bobbob-cd9yl i get what you said. Its correct but rob still got promoted after bisping ducked him for gsp. He wasnt promoted right then and there but it was afterwards

"Official" doesn't matter, he fought the most dangerous guy in the division and won, so he's clearly the champ after this fight, and defended it against the same guy. Technicalities don't factor in, that's the only way any real fan can see it.

We miss Romero. Without romero in the middle weight it is tasteless to watch... I think UFC should sign him back... 😇😇😇😇😇

Robert threw many lethal kicks in the fight with Romero but in the fight with Adensaya didn't use kicks very much.
