Was he though? He was one of the least popular champion for a while, he refused to learn English, his style was boring. He's circle the cage and avoid fighting until the last minute and explored with combos to win the round at the end. He was usually pretty boring to watch. He had a few good fights, but for the most part, in the ufc. He was meh, he'd pull out of fights a lot too. Very hard to get behind a guy like that, probably why conor blew up, he brought excitement to a bland division.

Dude been fighting at the heighest level since he was 22 or so. So no surprise with the amount of damage he got that he aint the same.

That happens with most champs though, they just run into one or two up and comers that are just better. Conor did it to Aldo, Max did it to Aldo, Adesanya did it to Whittaker, Usman did it to Woodley, Rose did it to Joanna... the list goes on. Dominant champs that lose to the next generation.

Think of it this way, Max has more win than aldo does that featherweight. He even cleanly, no controversy, no famous aldo injury/pullout, beat a prime aldo: twice. No crazy flash ko. He smashed aldo in two completely different styles. Max is definitely better, and has a better body of work. Just because most of that work weren't title defenses, doesn't matter, if holloway was gifted the belt on his run, he'd have a great title defenses record too. Max has a solid, and better body of work that anyone else at featherweight.
