For all the casuals saying Ank hugged his way to victory… Ank 94-76 advantage in sig strikes. Ank 127-97 advantage in total strikes. Ank outstruck Pereira with sig strikes 29-18 in R2 where he hurt Pereira bad, 19-7 in R4, and 20-14 in R5. Not even remotely a robbery. Clear 3-2.

Most of those strikes from Alex are calf and inside kicks which he took bravely while advancing, pushing Alex back and got the better of him on the defensive. Impressive performance.

No trash talk they are built differently from everybody out there. And the funny thing is they still don't realize till a fight like last night happened. The whole fight Alex was on his back foot and basically running around and Ankalaev was chasing him pretty much. Everybody boos him just like Belal but in Belal's case, he trained with these fighters and beat guys like gilbert burns and Leon Edwards.

While Pereira was doing some calf kicks, Ankalaev almost put him to sleep in the second round. Saved by the bell!

That wasn't being saved by the bell. Being saved by the bell is when you're completely defenseless, not coherently defending but the time ends before you can be put down. Poatan was briefly staggered but he clinched and survived for all the remaining seconds, that's not the same as being saved by the bell at all. Ankalaev did take round 2, of course, but otherwise it's 3-2 Poatan and it is undeniable. (The dumb stuff you're saying is the same as claiming that Thiago Santos beat Ankalaev in that close decision, because Thiago dropped Ank badly in one round.)

@@TGr-f7l I wouldn’t go as far as calling him a can. If Alex is can then Ankalaev is a mediocre fighter, which isn’t the case. Ank doesn’t even grapple as hard as his peers either. IMO he did more damage standing up and gave Alex a break from running by clinching.

Ye, of course, him and his team knew. Pereira never fought a complete fighter like Ankalaev in the UFC. All he did was fight some good strikers.

I am a Pereira fan, however I find it laughable that people are suggesting that it was a close fight or a war. Ankalaev won this very clearly and hurt Pereira bad in 2nd round which i believe made Pereira very hesitant to throw down with ank. Was good performance but not a very exciting fight though, I would love to see Ankalaev vs Jiri next. Styles make fights and i believe that would be a vert exciting fight and an absolute war 🔥

Pereira hasn't faced a single wrestling threat since his inception of arriving into the UFC. Ank is a beast in both striking and grappling. You can't get away with just pure striking, even if the KO power is astronomical like Pereira's. It only takes you so far. Ank also outstruck Alex which is insane. This was always going to happen from the beginning, it was a matter of when, not how. Congrats to Ank.

For future reference, analytical skills are important when deciphering a UFC scorecard. Alex did nothing to win. He thought he could cruise an easy win with low kicks but Ank just kept coming forward and outstruck Alex in the end.

Alex and Jiri are really good but they also got title shot within 2,3 fights which is crazy while magomed kept on grinding and also the rematches didn't do any favour even though he was winning in spectacular fashion in rematches. Khalil and Jamal got title shot off nothing. Jamal hill didn't deserve title shot and realistically at that time Ankalev should been champion he defeated Jan but dana was mad and put title on line : for hill vs glover and hill didn't deserve it but became champ. After he vacated instead of giving magomed shot against jiri who also vacated b4 got title shot against Alex Pereira. Alex only had 1 fight in lhw division and got title shot, after thatJamal fought for title and even after rematch of Alex Pereira and Jiri, Rountee got title shot and not Ankalev and finally it happened.

You pretty much summarized how or why Alex is such a fraud and pretty much won the lotto to championship and fame and money. If ank got it when he was supposed to Alex never becomes what he is today. Alex is the most protected bum ever and chosen by the ufc like an industry plant to make him famous and rich via easy ass match ups and protecting him from the boogey man ank. This is why I never liked Alex and never will

magomed really took the fight to him & just beat him up! he mixed up the striking and pressure, and kept alex guessing the whole fight. “its 2-2” wasnt even close. great night of fights!

Alex game plan: beat the leg on 1-3, defend takedowns, capitalize after and put him down. Ank game plan: beat Alex on the feet while he is worried about takedowns and focusing on leg kicks, don't let him capitalize on the damage he will do to the legs by taking him down/or hugging him against the fence on the later rounds. He had enough takedown threat, enough striking skills, enough cardio, enough hugging skills, and he did it, credits to Ank. And just to clarify Alex didn't say Ank did nothing though the whole fight, he said he didn't do anything when holding him against the fence only.
