Merab is operating against the world his whole life and he constantly proves doubters wrong. It's beautiful to see what human determination and willpower can do. After defeating Umar he truly has cemented himself as the greatest bantamweight in the history of UFC. It's just crazy to look at his resume he truly is the Machine. Also, outside the octagon I believe he's really humble so I root for him and wish him every success.

@@Luis82388 Bro the next fighter that goes on to defend the title 6-7+times and maybe win a belt in upper weight class will be goat. Thats how recency bias works. But there is something else to it, i dont think u can count 5 title defenses from 2010 and 2025 the same way. The sport evolves. And right now Islam is first in the goat race, there are Pereira and Topuria right behind him. BUT if Jon Jones beats Aspinall and retires after that he will be undisputed G.O.A.T. Pantoja has 3 defenses but without moving up they will not consider him more than a flyweight goat.

True, I remember when African fighters were at the top. Izzy went to war with kelvin, F'ed up Costa for good and made a fool out of Whittaker then K.Oed Pereira. Kamaru broke Colbys jaw. Ngannou K.O. The black beast and many others, pissed Dana. The three African Kings cleared they're divisions, ruled them in dominant fashion, they were the essence of the UFC (AS REAL AS IT GETS BABY!)

Umar grew up under the tutelage of Abdulmanap and got training partners like Khabib and Islam while Merab grew up in an unknown village in Georgia. Umar has skills but Merab has indomitable will.

It just shows Umar isn’t that skilled and genetics are just lottery sometimes. Umar had everything he had to win, the training camp, the fighters, the genetics, the age difference, etc. He just isn’t as talented as his cousin IMO who was an anomaly. I dont think Islam is the same as Khabib either, we wont get to see a fighter like Khabib again probably in our lives sucks he had to retire early because I dont think he ever truly showed just how great he was.

Merab overcame so much adversity to get this win! He had a nasty infection in his shin. The American media didn't know until this week, but he showed his injury on Episode 3 of Dong Hyun Kim's channel (Stun Gun TV) over a month ago. Then you had all the haters doubting him despite being on a 11 fight win streak and pretty much cleaning out his division. Meanwhile everybody was on the Umar train even though his only big win was against Cory. Give Merab his respect: he is a great champion with unrivaled stamina, elite wrestling, fast hands, and most of all, pure heart!
