Women's bantamweight Miesha Tate cuts the final few pounds with the help of some candy before all the athletes check their weight at the arena. At a fan-packed event, the stars face off, but when co-main star Kelvin Gastelum badly misses the welterweight limit, his opponent Tyron Woodley is left with a big decision. UFC Embedded is an all-access, behind-the-scenes video blog leading up to the UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz superfight, taking place Saturday, January 31 on Pay-Per-View.

Cherry Pauper it's part of the bout agreement. His weight hasnt been better. You could tell he made and effort. Now he's coming in starved and dehydrated while Kelvin has probably been eating since he got out the hospital. It's a matter of principle.

not sure but apparently Gastelum has had flu like symptoms all week which is why he had to stop cutting weight Friday and rehydrate at the hospital, so maybe it was that but Gastelum does have a history so who knows, Gastelum obviously wouldnt miss it by 9 lbs, apparently he was 3-4 lbs over friday morning when he had to go to the hospital to rehydrate

He was working with Dolce. But for some odd reason Dolce didn't want to work with him for his fight with Ellenberger. Wasn't answering his calls and everthing then come to find out Dolce was working with another fighter for the same event.

the guy has got some serious flab on him, not sure why he doesnt just lose it, it would make his weight cutting 10x easier, like you said hes way too small for middleweight and is definitely a welterweight, he just has to lose that excess fat which is killing him, hopefully this will be a wake up call for him

I dont know what their situation is but Gastelum & Lineker is just disappointing by not making weight. They are both known for having weight cut issues but still havent rectify the problem. Just move up if it's that hard. Even though we are dealing with different physicalities but look at Rumble for example. He's doing more than fine

Difference is that Kelvin would be FAR too small for the MW division... Rumble used to cut weight to be the largest fighter in the WW division... Gastelum cuts weight b/c he is the SMALLEST in the MW division.

Kelvin came down from Middleweight knowing it would give him an advantage over 'smaller' opponents in the welterweight division, and even though i like him and he was 100% right to make the switch, having been one of the 'smaller' MIddleweights, YOU HAVE TO MAKE WEIGHT, it doesn't matter how hard the cut is, it's the price you pay for that tactical advantage. If you can't make the cut, then you have to fight in the upper weight division.

I like Kelvin but he kinda lost a fan in me for missing weight , making weight is your job, this is your career and the one that you chose to do. You look at Tyron Woodley and the dude's huge but make the god damn effort to make weight. Something is wrong with Kelvin, not sure if it is a viral infection or what, but he looked ill at the weigh ins. I was really having a hard time calling this fight and was leaning towards Woodley, but now I think Kelvin might get wrecked. I don't think this is an issue of him being lazy or him being too big for 170. I have a feeling he got sick as fuck in the days leading up to weigh ins.

Bad timing for Kelvin since he's moving up in the ranking really fast. Any one of his fights could set him up for a title shot but having missed weight 2-3 times now. This might spell moving up a weight class and starting over again.

That is bs how they allow guys to miss weight and only get penalized 20%. They should make it each pound X 10%. So if someone is 9 lbs over he should forfeit 90% of his purse. You can't penalize someone that comes in 10 lbs over the same as someone that comes in 1 lb over because it just isn't the same and also shows that fighters don't care about the 20% penalty. Other than that great card and I can't wait. I hope Woodley beats his ass for missing weight.

these weigh ins are a bunch of bull and its with every weight oriented sport, you weigh in a day before the fight at 170 but on fight night you're closer to 185, so what in the hell is the point in cutting weight why not have fights at the weight you've been training at during camp

Kelvin strike me as a bit unprofessional in this regard, which is unfortunate since he's such a good fighter. But missing weight by aprox 10 lbs as a pro fighter? Come on man, making weight is part of the job.. :S
