McGregor answered a big question, and people still can't accept it. The UFC doesn't fix fights, and a fighter like Mendes wouldn't take a dive. Team Alpha Male would love to hold two belts. Conor hit him square, dropped him, and then kept the pressure on with punches. Herb could have let it go a second longer, but it didn't look like Chad was moving to stand up. We would have just seen Chad taking a few more punches. The reason he wasn't upset is because he knew he was hurt, and he is a nice, reasonable guy. He knows Herb didn't rob him.
@nicolasamyot-ariya664610 жыл бұрын
atherion0 Connor proved that he was a better fighter than Mendes and he did answer the wrestler question: He can't defend himself from takedowns and he can't do shit on the mat. He is ok at getting back to his feet but he should not have gone down so easily in the first place.The stoppage was legit cause Mendes had no chance of coming back from that. He had gassed out and his chest was hurt.
@atherion010 жыл бұрын
Nic AA Conor said he had some injuries that he didn't specify, so maybe it had something to do with that. He also looked like he was looking to get stood back up, rather than try to attack from the bottom. He may have just felt he had a much better chance on the feet than trying to submit Chad. I was yelling for him to throw his legs up, but either way, he was able to defend himself well enough and get up. He also stuffed two of the six takedowns. So, I don't think that is too terrible of a percentage for a striker against a high-level wrestler.
@nicolasamyot-ariya664610 жыл бұрын
atherion0 There is no doubt in my mind that Connor wanted to get off the mat as fast as possible. He was rumoured to have an injured knee which obviously wasn't the case, given the number of kicks he threw at Mendes. If Mendes hadn't went for the submission , Connor would not have been able to get back up for the rest of that round.
@atherion010 жыл бұрын
Nic AA He got up from other takedowns, and was defending himself sufficiently, though. So, you can't assume he would have stayed there, or that him being on his back for the rest of that round would have had a significant impact on the rest of the fight. There were three full rounds left after that one. Chad was landing shots from his guard, and passing a little, but not enough to do real damage. As for his kicks, him throwing them wouldn't automatically imply his knee wasn't injured. He wasn't throwing super powerful kicks, and it probably wasn't hurt enough to prevent him from not throwing any at all. It could have had an effect on his ability/desire to use his legs in the guard.

atherion0 Conor had a torn ACL in the knee going into this fight, so I guess he needs surgery and he's gonna be out for a few months. Aldo vs McGregor should happen in January / February 2016

This Stoic and introspective Conor was the best ever. Even the way he speaks slowly and with the precise words he wants to use is something to behold. He’s made a good turnaround from being a massive douchebag since the Khabib fight. I’d love to see him go back to this state of Zen in his return to fighting.

I love McGregor AND Mendez, But everyone should be talking about Robbie vs Rory, that fight was one of the best fights in UFC history, if not MMA history. Top 10 easily. That was true fighting, the absolute pinnacle. You won't see a fight like that again for a long time i don't think.

realize this is a 4 year old comment but for real. I’m reading through the comments and 90% of them are about mcgregor. Like this literally had one of the greatest fights in history and no one is talking about it. Re-fucking-spects to Robbie and Rory for the absolute war they had, at least Dana was giving them their props. Probably my personal favourite fight of all time, that stare down at the end of round 4 was insane.

He had 4 months training for a striker, he could not answer mendes's wrestling and ground game. I don't think you can say Aldo will definitely beat mcgregor because of that, another way to look at it is mendes took Aldo to a decision, mcgregor finished him you simply don't know

Conor was so emotional, anyone could see that his adrenaline was through the roof and I believe this caused him not to preform to his best. I think his next fight he will be more calm and collective; he will preform at a different level. With regards to the stoppage, it was just right. The dispute is only because it was close to the bell, had it been half way through the round, there would be no dispute. Plus as a ref Herb in this case they should not take into consideration how many seconds is left for the end of the round otherwise he would be bias.

limerickcrime chad gassed but before he did he clearly demonstrated how easy it is to take conor down and beat on him. put the chad that fought aldo for 5 grueling rounds in there last night and it might not be a memorable slugfest but chad wins easily. and no it doesnt matter that conor would get to train for the takedown, he showed last night his ground game from top to bottom is nowhere near his other abilities, and a camp doesnt change that. ask cub

No Dana clarified on Twitter, he thought it was an X-ray image but it was an MRI. White lines on MRI mean new injuries while on x Ray they are old ones. He just spoke too soon. Still can't wait for mcgregor vs Aldo. Mcgregor proved he was elite world class fighter but he has HUGE weaknesses. He does get hit, Mendes was able to easily get inside and his reach was neutralized by the fear of being taken down. I think Aldo will emulate this and I just don't see how much Conor can improve his wrestling until then. I still pick the champ Aldo, 3 rd Round tko

Edgar is a decent striker and a way better wrestler. In the fight with Mendes Mcgregor proved that he can't do shit on the mat and striking is his only asset. I predict that Mcgregor beats Aldo via KO/TKO but goes on to lose to edgar in his first title defense
@patrickrooney937610 жыл бұрын
Nic AA tell me how getting back to your feet after being taken down , and held down mind you ill give you that, then knocking your opponent out constitutes having no ground game . Thats wrestling and jujitsu in reverse. Is he as good as mendez at wrestling , no but neither is aldo and he beat mendez twice . I think frankie would cause connor more problems than aldo but connor would find a way to win with his superior stand up .
@nicolasamyot-ariya664610 жыл бұрын
Patrick Rooney Connor may have been able to get back to his feet after those takedowns but I also don't recall Connor defending even one takedown. Each time Chad Mendes tried to take Mcgregor down, he didn't show any real resistance. Mcgregor vs Edgar could go both ways though and I see Edgar winning if it goes to decision but that fight has good chances of not even getting past the first two rounds cause Connor is a beast and can probably find a way to knock him out.
@goatricc114910 жыл бұрын

Firstly I'll start by saying I was in full support of Conor McGregor before and even during the fight. Conor showed very good striking ability like always. Mendes proved to be winning this fight especially when Conor was taken down. Mendes threw some hard elbows and at one point you could actually see Conor asking Herb Dean to possibly keep the fight standing. Mendes was so tired by the second round and he decided to try and finish the fight with a submission and that didn't work out. The question of whether or not Conor can handle a high calibre wrestler was answered, to a small extent he can but overall not really. In my opinion this fight was NOT fixed, Mendes gassed most likely because he didn't have a proper training camp. I have a lot of respect for Mendes for taking this fight on only 2 weeks notice. I have a lot of respect for Conor for having the ability to take a punch and having the 'never give up' type of heart.

I apologize for doubting mcgregor. I was one of the leading critics of mcgregor on every video UFC posted, I was hating on him. But I realized man the sport needs this. Almost half a million people were tweeting about the fight an hour after it was over. Fuckk this guy is so exciting to watch. I respect Mendes for taking this fight in short notice and imposing his wrestling but it was clear he gassed out because of not having a full camp. I've never seen Mendes get gassed in the 2nd round. However, he was also hurt bad going into the second by those body kicks. They look flashy but they have power behind them. Conor also hits like a fuckinggg truck. That left hand he throws seems to down almost every opponent. He reminded me of Anderson silva and it was glorious. But his MAJOR weaknesses were exposed: WRESTLERS. I mean Mendes was taking him down any time he wanted and doing damage with elbows. Anderson silva was the same way, he struggled against wrestlers, but he was a black belt on the ground and had a weapon against wrestling. Conor has ZERO, and that worries me that he will get mauled by Frankie Edgar who never gets tired and has the heart to keep dragging Conor to the ground. Another thing I noticed he gets hit by major shots. Anderson silva rarely got hit. Conor ate a few over right hands in the fight. Going against Aldo that worries me. I can't wait for Aldo vs mcgregor. He proved a lot but also showed he had a lot of weaknesses. But I am now rooting for him to succeed because the amount of excitement and buzz he brings is something I've never seen before. He came to the fight in a police barricade for Gods sake lmaoo

Anyone saying it was fixed are delusional you do realize when somebody is gassed out they are easier to put on their ass right ? have anyone of you lot had a fight before ? chad was gassed and it was a sweet left on the button chad tried to recover he had heart to try but Conor then was standing over him landing blows to the back of the ear he was 100% done KING CONOR Jose WILL fall that's if he dont retire ow his little plan didn't work MENDES fought well respect to him the fight went like I thought it would mendes dominated the ground BUT conor answered the question took minimal damage when on the mat and did maximum damage when he was on the feet

skater78207 There were three seconds left...how about letting him finish the round and then stop the fight if you don't like how he gets up? He was covering up. We constantly hear how these guys are "warriors" and "beasts", let them fight like it then. 3 seconds left, covering up.

@josephnguntual471310 жыл бұрын
Dude, Ofcourse he mentioned his training partners, coaches and his parents. If you have watch all the UFC media obligations with Conor in it, you would've known. I agree with you also, he does mentioned them 'all' in one word 'team'. But just think about it, she does do all the cooking, all the hospitality and take personal care of Conor. I mean she deserved a shout out atleast once. Just a thought a buddy.
@CallMehXiLe10 жыл бұрын
When was lee Hammond and joey Breslin mentioned(his bjj training partners) or when was Sergey pikulski(wrestling coach) or Owen roddy(pad man) Tommy Egan, countless names. He just mentions them all in one cause it's easier. And yeah I do agree with you that she deserves a shout but a lot of people on his team did and he shouted them all out in a very humble way I thought. I agree they all deserve shouts but that's just strenuous man you know what I mean.
@CallMehXiLe10 жыл бұрын
And just another thing, I remember an interview(because I watched all the videos for the build up) with him saying how he loves to spoil his girl friend and it fills him with pride, that he was able to stop her from working, and that she stuck with him through the tough times so tbh he did shout her out bud.

Fussel He "dominated" Conor for 2 Rounds? There was no point in time within those 2 rounds that Mendes had McGregor in any danger what so ever. Matter of fact, The only significant strike he landed that did any true damage was an elbow from the top that cut him in the 1st round other than that nothing really.

The one thing I took away from the main event was never stand in front of Conor, he will easily pick you apart if you do that. Since Aldo tends to stand right in front of you, I see it as an easy win for Conor. Edgar should get the next shot, and if he wants to win he needs to stay light on his feet.

I don't know if McGregor vs Mendez was fixed, but it was a very strange finish. Mendez dominated on the ground and could take Conor down at will. Instead Mendez stood in front of Conor, did not defend or move around. And in the end, it's in UFC best business interest to have Conor vs Aldo.

Connor was getting handled most of the fight, and he was taking huge blows. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of him but he well deserved that win! He timed that first punch with his right hand after getting up and gave it all he had left in that left to knock out Mendes. Just because he was losing the fight at first doesn't mean he does not deserve it. The whole idea of a fight is not to win it, but to rather survive and be the last one standing. That is a true winner.
@andrepacheco697810 жыл бұрын
Almeida is going to make some noise on his division until someone really cracks him and captilize it. Lawler is a warrior, plain and simple. Mendes in a complete training camp propably would've gave Connor even more problems, win maybe, that doesn't mean Mcgregor loses to Aldo, my pick is Aldo, but it wouldn't surprise me Connor taking it home and even K.O. Aldo.

@bonkling10 жыл бұрын
No doubt that Conor is a freak. Took some of Mendes' best shots, and didn't even flinch. Though, Mendes did take him down like it was a training drill. He was gassed halfway through the first round. Against Aldo he pushed the pace for 5 rounds, like an animal. You can't help but wonder how the fight goes if Mendes gets a full camp. Wouldn't have his hands low, wouldn't be puffed put after wrestling for 4 minutes. Respect to Conor and Mendes. Amazing fights.
