The key distinction between Pettis and Max as displayed in this segment: The Holloway highlights run right through his most recent victories. But they had to go back over two years to find any impressive, dominating film on Pettis. Holloway is moving into his prime. Pettis is on an (early) downward trajectory. Max by TKO.

Man IFL these. These videos are an amazing way to see these small details and bits of genius these fighters exhibit that most people are nowhere near appreciating. That amazing highlight headkick Pettis did on Lauzon only happened that way because of his genius setups.

I look forward to watching this two analyze fights, their insight is amazing and when I get to see the fight I have a good idea of what I expect on that fight, I share the opinion of others saying that the UFC better keep this two on their payroll, I think they are a great asset. Would be amazing to get to see The Outlaw back in the cage again but I don't think that will happen.

Correction @ 10:18 ... THAT my dear friend, Dan Hardy, is not called the "Carotid Artery". It's called the Jugular Vein! Plus, in the event of holding one's breath, the carotid artery collapses in fact, and it's the Jugular Vein that gets engorged. The Carotid artery is in that general region, but it cannot be visualized since it's deeper. I like your work by the way. Keep it up!

Actually if you watch Chois fights, you could tell he is super technical and always in position. If you add that insane KO power that makes people fall asleep especially at 145, and able to deliver it at almost any time, thats like Conor Mcgregor esq... with those tools, everyone has to be careful.

Great breakdown as usual!! A few notes though: 1. I think that in this breakdown, even though you're selling a fight, it was important to touch up on how Pettis' striking level and defense drop when he's not the one controlling the distance since I think that due to Holloway's pressure, superior footwork and Pettis' tendency to backup in a stright line this will be key and leave Pettis very open to Holloway's amazing combinations. I have a feeling this will be key and that a lot of people are going to be surpised when this turns out to be the one-sided fight I think it's going to be. Pettis is flashy, but he has way more holes than Holloway on the feet, they just go unnoticed because what he does do well is so mesmerizing. Also, from a confidence stand-point, I believe Holloway is coming in with "real" confidence while as Pettis, no matter what he says isn't. Pettis didn't move down, he was chased out of "his" division. Pettis was getting hurt a LOT by Oliveira (abusing those same holes I talked about in this comment), and though he gave back too, I believe Holloway is leagues above Oliveira in that area and less susceptible to the stuff Pettis hurt him back with. Pettis, obviously blames the bad cut, but I believe it's way more than that and that deep down he knows it (he's a smart dude). Of course, Pettis has all the tools to win this fight, but I just think that Holloway rounds out as the better fighter (and more specifically THE BETTER STRIKE - yes, yes, Pettis isn't the best striker on the planet nor close to it) pre-fight and I believe it'll show. 2. Choi's "power" isn't weird. A great fighter once said "timing and precision beat speed and power every time". It's a known fact that it's not necessarily the hardest punches that knock you out, it's the ones you don't see coming. Choi, as Gooden pointed out, has fighter pilot precision. He picks the perfect punch to throw for each position (notice the first fight is was the overhand right, Sicila, being shorter and more hunched down was vulnerable to the hooks and uppercuts, while as Tavares ate the straight right through his high guard (which would have stopped hooks). Every single one of them was thrown perfectly, with perfect timing and EXACTLY where Choi aimed them, not necessarily the most powerful shots. That's not saying he doesn't have power too, but usually the guys with "weird power" where it looks like every time they touch they get a huge reaction from their opponent (Conor, Choi are perfect examples of that) are the ones who have the better timing, reaction time and precision.

agree, a terrible fight like Lawler vs Rory 2 would basically end anyone's career. Lawler was also not the same after that one. You need to be wrong in the head to stay the same after fights like that... but some can do it, take Diego Sanchez or Frankie Edgar. That being said, Weidman is done (after USADA, Rockhold and Romero).

Jeez this could be an epic fight. Both would bring a world of hurt to Aldo and offer him a fight that the likes of Frankie or Chad couldn't. All things being equal (which they almost are) Pettis squeaks it with his extra 5 round experience and ability to kick the liver like he did with Cowboy and others. If Pettis makes just one mistake tho Max will capitalize.

Dan Hardy is right, the blemish on DHC's record is a 2 round split decision in Deep: Cage impact 2010 with a guy named Yusuke. It's a tournament, sort of like TUF and should not be included in his record. Don Hyun Kim has similar fights in Deep and it's not included in his mma record.

I have this sneaking suspicion Anthony Pettis will win not based on fight analysis but an observation I had going back to UFC 162; it seems like the fighter with the drama going on in life statistically will win. From what I could uncover, hurricane wrecked Chris Weidman's house, Miesha Tate saved someone's kid, Daniel Cormier deals with Jon Jones failing drug test, Anthony Johnson has literal drama with woman in gym, Dominick Cruz sidelined before title fight, Tyron Woodley insists on waiting for title shot, Conor has press conference and expensive camp shenanigans (prior to UFC 202), and the most notable example in recent history was some guy shoots Valentina Shevchenko's coach in Brazil. All of the fighters mentioned won their next fights with many of them being underdogs. Guess which UFC 206 fighter just got his property torched?
@smartperson3258 жыл бұрын
ctv186 nice insight. stress can drive some people to new heights or break then down. so we will see i personally think holoway by decision petis is just not the same
@ctv1868 жыл бұрын
smart person By my logical mind, I think Holloway by decision seems more probable considering how Edson Barboza outstruck Pettis over 3 rounds. I'm not sure Holloway is as fast as Barboza but he has a similar well rounded striking approach.
@phlyghstaff99658 жыл бұрын
Yea, holloway's boxing is his ace, similar to edson's muay thai. This is going to be a fun match up. Pettis is crafty as hell and durable as fuck. hopefully nether is completely out matched and Max's cardio holds up over 5 rounds. Pettis is suspect as hell right now tho, we shall see.
