Ortega doesn't wrestle offensively....of course his takedown % success is going to be. All his subs are circumstantial and come out of transitions which is exactly what you want out of a high level bjj player. He can hang on the feet and if the fight goes in his domain its over

I would agree that Ortega can hang on the feet with pretty much all of the division except for max. He gets tagged too much and Max is suffocating, and I don't think the fight will reach the ground Max is too quick these days.

Amazing analysis! I mean we've all seen the fight now and the analysis was absolutely on point. Ortega couldn't take Max down and Max picked up the pace each single round and he got more effective as the fight went on. According to FightMetric Max got 40/84 (47%), 66/126 (52%), 50/84 (59%) and 134(!!!)/196 (69%).

I think if it goes past round three its Max's fight, the man has weaponized pace just like Tony Ferguson. Not only that Max's fight iq is on a whole other level compared to Ortega. The thing is though Ortega's striking has vastly improved over his past few fights, not to forget his world class BJJ, he is great mixed martial artist.... I really do not know what to think the outcome is going to be.

Cool Guy Lobby.........If you think Max Holloway has a fight IQ that "is on a whole other level" compared to Brian Ortega.....then you need to lay off smokin' the birdseed. I really like BOTH fighters.......but ever since the McGregor fight early in his career, Holloway hasn't faced ANYONE with the boxing skills as Brian Ortega, and Holloway DEFINITELY hasn't faced anyone with the wicked, nasty & dangerous ground game.......Ortega is like a cross between a crocodile and an anaconda when he gets ahold of you. This fight will NOT go the distance, and if Ortega doesn't knock Holloway out first, he will fold Holloway up like a lawn chair and either choke him out or crank his neck or squeeze his brains out of both of his ears and take that championship.......YOU MARK MY WORD.

Tony always gets lit up and hurt during fights but every one of his opponents always gas out. They also don't have Max's accuracy. Max vs Khabib is most intriguing. Max vs Tony would be most fun.

Dan I would just like to add Ortega is actually 5.10" and has a 74 inch reach your stat of 5.8" came in after the De la Torre fight they actually put this right stat, then on the Tavares fight he magically shrunk to the 5.8", but next to Tavarez who is 5.7" he towers over him.

This is a great breakdown of this particular fight and a brilliant way of explaining fighting in general. I wanna see more breakdowns by this guy. I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I'm not always sure if I understand the striking, but I definitely understand the grappling, and so he gave great insight and understanding of the striking for this fight. yeah that's what I'm thinking too.. So I hope Max will win this fight so that I have a feeling that Dana surely put Max vs Tony.. And Brian will absolutely find somebody to fight at high-stakes fight, and he could only find that to Khabib.. And who wins of those fights will surely be the potential opponent. #fingersCrossed

@@nostupidgod9415 Lol Max would beat Tony easily. Tony's chin is suspect. He gets hurt every fight but then his opponents don't have the accuracy in their striking that Max possesses or end up gassing out + their fight IQ is way lower than Max's. Ortega just got beat down by Max in his division - 145lbs. No way Ortega gets a shot at Khabib, moving up to face the 155lb champ. Ortega would get smash on the ground by Khabib. He's got good submission skills but good luck getting that done on Khabib. Khabib is the strongest 155lb'er by far. He smashes light heavyweights on the ground in practice.

Ortega is the Khabib of the featherweight division with good striking. Just swap out wrestling for jiu Jitsu. They’re both big for their weight class with insanely sharp ground games. I don’t see Holloway standing a chance.

Logan Wolf Ortega won’t drag the fight to the ground on his own, he has to out strike Holloway. It’s nothing like Khabib because Khabib doesn’t have to engage on the feet, the wrestling can dictate the entire fight. I don’t know how Ortega is going to get this fight down to the ground and I’m not sure he can out-strike Holloway. Ortega is very dangerous and I’m rooting for him to win but I’m struggling to see how.

Mary Fartsonin that’s where you’re wrong. Ortega doesn’t need to take you down. His jiu Jitsu is so high level that even clinching with him is dangerous. Think back to the cub Swanson fight where every clinch you could sense an element of danger. And the Frankie Edgar fight where he had an advantage in the striking because of the clinch threat. Same with Khabib having the striking advantage with Conor because of his takedown threat.
