In this episode John and Dan preview the UFC 240 main event between UFC Featherweight champion Max 'Blessed' Holloway, and former UFC lightweight champ, Frankie 'The answer' Edgar.
Max Holloway returns to his throne at 145, where he looks to defend his title for a third time. Looking to overthrow the Hawaiian, stands the fighting pride of New Jersey, Frankie Edgar, who boasts more Octagon time than any other competitor in UFC history. And after more than a year out of competition, Edgar will be determined to show he still has all the "answers" against a champion "blessed" with featherweight gold.
Hosted by UFC commentators John Gooden and Dan Hardy, UFC Inside the Octagon is an in-depth tactical analysis show that previews the feature fights at upcoming UFC events.

I can't think of a better MMA media outlet than this show. Gooden and Hardy bounce off each other like an infinite ping pong game. It's flawless. And Hardy's analysis is second to none. Such a deep appreciation of the entire game of MMA. I hope to see more and more from both in the future

Max was unfortunate to not beat Poirier, he was too reckless in the first round and took hits he had no need to take, I hope Max takes this then makes the move to 155 full time, it has to be healthier for him and he has the skills and technique to beat anyone, he just needs to change his approach and redress his tactics. One of the most genuine and stand up champs to ever grace the UFC, Max could be inducted into the HOF tomorrow without any complaints from me.

Max needs to fight the way he was before the Brian or Dustin fight he needs to fight the way he was when he was running through everyone like the two aldo fights and pettis fight and so on he was always moving not getting hit and countering his opponent then putting on pressure in later rounds, now he just puts pressure on and hands down from round one he needs to change that shit quick if he wants to win again.

problem is he might have permanent damage from that severe concussion... remember him mumbling on his interview with bisbing? Looked like he had a stroke. It might be that in the heat of the fight he takes a few shots and his fight IQ brain goes offline. That's what it looked like to me during the poirier fight. He just walked forward and ate a ton of shots with no answer for the first two rounds.

His problem was he did the Chuck Liddell thing. Kinda like what Cody does as well, he was taking so many unnecessary hits because he thought he could walk through them, which he could but ultimately that cost him the fight. Also it's a shit way to fight, especially because Max usually blends offense and defense very well. If he keeps fighting like that his chin will eventually deteriorate then which isn't what you want when you're still a few years off 30. Max also needs to put on more muscle next time he fights at 155. Guys like Chiesa and Smith etc got way more jacked when they moved up, I think Max needs to do the same for 155 because Poirier looked a lot stronger than him.
@kissmylilpiggy
@kissmylilpiggy 5 жыл бұрын
@@nshadyu I actually had Max written off against Ortega based upon his slow and slurred speech etc and the world saw how that worked out, the fight with Dustin was extremely close and people talk as if Max was never in that fight, he only has to make some adjustments to be competitive at 155, size / muscle mass / power aren't the only key's to success look at Darren Till for evidence of that.

Dan's analysis is mindblowing. Never saw Frankie in the precise way Dan has broken it down here, but it really explains Frankie's fighting sucess - espcially against killers like Maynard and BJ. I always assumed Frankie was just an average fighter with Rocky-like determination (Maynard fight), having to do with his smaller size, but, not quite: he's a "chain" fighter, as Dan says. He switches modes at a pace most guys can't follow. Really shines a light on how Edgar completely shut BJ out. Thanks, Dan, your work is much appreciated.

@broootal warp - There is as much proof that Jesus Christ arose from the dead as there is that Alexander the Great existed. As a matter of fact, there is much more. Can you prove to me that Julius Caesar ever lived? No! You can show me some archeology and a history book, but you CANNOT absolutely prove that this man ever lived. You CANNOT prove to me that anyone in history ever lived-apart from something you read in a book, saw on TV, heard in a class, etc. Everything we believe concerning history is by faith! I CANNOT prove to you that Jesus ever existed. Who says George Washington ever existed? Can you prove that? No, you CANNOT. However, no one questions whether or not George Washington existed. Why? Because we blindly accept some of the things we hear and read. The only exception is the people who are still living today who can tell us about things that happened fifty to one hundred years ago. Beyond the last century, history is all by faith-We go by what we read and hear. Everything we believe concerning history is based on something we’ve seen or heard-everything!

Inside The Octagon is one of the best MMA Technical Analysis Shows. Both John and Dan weave the comments seamlessly. This episode was no exception either. However, the things you guys discussed about Frankie are things of the past. Frankie era is long gone by. Though I wish Frankie wins this fight, I know that would be wishful thinking on my part. At 37 he can no more be effective against bigger, taller, stronger fighter. The only advantage he used to have was his speed and volume in stand up but he doesn't have that advantage also against Max. So the result of the fight is a foregone conclusion.

@@jordantheseriousmmaanalyst1318 Delusional. Edgar is a slower less powerful Volk. Edgar has never got the belt and that is for a reason. MMA math is queer sometimes but the fact that Ortega knocked Edgar out and then Ortega got outclassed and slapped around like a child by Holloway says a lot. Holloway has trouble with inside fighters but Edgar isn't going to be threatening with power like Poirer was. Take away the power of Poirer and Holloway would've had a lot more success in their fight. Unless Edgar wrestle fucks Holloway for 5 whole rounds I really don't see this going well for him It is MMA though so a freak finish might happen. But I wouldn't be betting on it at all.

Beautiful fight, but from the side of Max Holloway. It is very interesting to see how Pettis, a very dangerous fighter, goes against the champion and at the same time shows such a not serious attitude to this fight. Pettis lacked neither speed nor endurance at the end of the fight, and in the beginning he thought too little. Max Holloway, showed himself to be a very smart fighter, who did not rush stupidly to the attack, and he learned Pettis very well, this shows what Pettis himself lacked in his turn. The show failed but a very good result in the career of Max Holloway, and a great opportunity for Pettis to take revenge and show himself 100%, he has the strength to win, but not this time.

Great show, but who is worse at fight picks Chael or Dan? I haven't seen Dan this convinced someone was gonna win since He picked Till to beat Woodley and Conor to beat Khabib.

All about who gets their game off. If Frankie can impose the wrestling it's gonna be a tough night for Max. If Max can keep it a striking match it don't think it goes 5 rounds.

I was going to say something about the finishes because of this tweet from Mike Bohn: Former two-time UFC champ Jose Aldo holds records for the most wins (18), stoppages (11) and knockouts (11) in UFC/WEC featherweight history. #UFCFortaleza but I realized in the video it's just UFC finishes before the merge with the WEC.

Edgar's switching between the ground and striking will get Holloway for the first few rounds but we've seen how Holloway reads that quickly before and will punish him if he gets too cocky with it. Holloway has insane movement still and as soon as he clocks how he switches a few kicks could get him. Edgar is pretty swift though and he'll 100% be able to ground Max a few times.

Max has a lot to lose and he’s going to feel more pressure than before because Frank is past his prime, if Max loses, all his hype is dead and he knows it, he knows he beat an Aldo that was past his prime as well. All I’m saying is this fight is a lot closer than people think. Unless Max catches Frank early with some big shot like Jorge caught askren than this is going to be a 5 round war of attrition, and Frank is one of the best ever at long fights.

100% agree with Dan if Max beats Frankie then he as to be best featherweight ever. That is including WEC/UFC Aldo reign. Then it’s time for him to finally get that little bit bigger and then become a Lightweight. But I still hope Frankie wins, edges on points.

If you think anything other than Max murdering Frankie is going to happen, than you're delusional. Frankie doesn't even deserve this title shot, it's being gifted to him. After being stopped by Ortega like that, beating Cub Swanson who has lost something like 4 fights in a row now is not deserving of a title shot. By the way, the last time Max defended his belt it was via slaughter against Ortega. So I don't understand how the UFC can even sell the idea that Frankie, who is almost 40 years old and got knocked out by the guy Max beat in his last FW fight, can actually win. And why are we questioning Max's cardio? Max was pouring it on hard to both Brian and Dustin late into championship rounds in his last two fights. Crazier things have happened, but I'm putting my money on Max by complete domination.

Alex Mohr Fair points but MMA math doesn’t work, the “ knocked ortega out who knocked Edgar out means Holloway will beat Edgar “... that’s not going to work as such.

Frankie and Masvvidal are similar to me. Both well rounded tough guys. Both beatable. Both guys that no matter who there opponent is, whether a phenom, tough guy, JuJu expert, striking phenom etc, regardless of what that opponent brings if Edgar or Masvidal are standing across from them, THEY KNOIW, This isn't gonna be easy...😎

i loved Frankie back in the day but i dont understand how he's the next inline for a title shot. i hate to say it but max is going to pick him apart to the end of 2nd or 3rd round then get a TKO. saying that i am a big Frankie fan, great fighting style. i just think he's past his prime and max is peaking and has a huge height and reach advantage.

Frankie IMO has the best boxing technique at featherweight, Holloways reach and distance control will be a problem initially but Frankie's smart enough to know he has to stay on the outside and work his way inside with feints or working on holloways lead leg to slow down Max's footwork.
