He literally leaned in so much to make up for the reach disadvantage and Izzy hit him with literally the same counter like 8 times until it knocked him out. Seems like Robert has grown and learned to pick your shots rather than just go in guns blazing especially against a kick boxing specialist like izzy who’s just waiting for the right moment

@@prophetnozza4150 Pfff, psychological my butthole. I said it 3 years ago. Striker vs striker, the better striker wins. We saw it when he got KO'd by Wonderboy at WW. I don't get why everyone has been saying Whittaker wasn't himself. He's always been blitzing and walking in hands down. Things might be different now. He's finally utilising takedowns and not so rushed to finish fights. But, no amount of mental prep would have helped Whittaker win in 2019.

@@Theorigin11 No. Kamaru and Colby abandoned their wrestling and kept the fight on feet. Kamaru showed he is as good a wrestler as Colby but importantly a better striker than Colby. Izzy is a better striker than Rob mostly because of reach and height advantage, but Rob has shown he is a better wrestler.

Styles make fights. Jan's unusual striking style (which was defensively sound) flustered Izzy, that combined with the power factor and takedown threat made Izzy hesitant. And then you had old man Glover just dismantle Jan in their fight on account of the takedown threat and old man strength.

It's funny that this was the fight to make at the end of 2020 when Adesanya beat Costa and Whittaker beat Cannonier, but then we basically got two filler fights at the crop of the middleweight division, as Izzy took on Vettori and Rob took on Gastelum. Now that those fillers are out of the way, we can get to the fight that was meant to happen in the first place.

I don't see Usman vs Whittaker being competitive. Whitaker is an escape artist. Some pretty elite wrestlers have tried and failed to keep Whittaker on the ground. And Whittaker is a far better striker than Usman.

It's still wild to me that people 1) think Romero somehow won that fight by standing still for 97% of the time and throwing 2 combos in 25 minutes, and 2) actually blame Izzy when Romero was literally standing like a statue in the middle of the octagon for extended periods. Romero's leg was also buckling, him doing a 5 second dance a day later doesn't mean shit lmao.

He absolutely has a chance. If you look at his career and especially his recent performances, it's pretty evident rob was not fighting like himself that night. The blitzing was constant and his usual feints, safe long jabs, and striking variety were nowhere to be found. I think we'll see a very different version of Bobby this time. Also I have a suspicion the first round is gonna be pretty boring.

@@hookoffthejab1 safe long jab won't work against izzy, the only time(twice) Rob connected with 2 stiff jab was when izzy went for leg kicks. That's the only opening he had for jabs. As for the blitzing, maybe he has to time it better, because he had to cover distance somehow due to reach disadvantage. My armchair opinion is, Rob had nothing for isreal on the feet, he has to wrestling and clinch over and over again

Even vettori had success jabbing izzy even though he never built anything off of it but that's more telling of vettories stupidity rather than izzy shutting down his jab.

Here's my feeling of what's going to be diff. in this fight: Rob is going to go right at it as soon as the bell rings 🔔 trying to keep Adesanya from establishing his pace. Izzy will incorporate wrestling offensively. Should be a banger!

Striking wise, Bobby has no chance. His main techniques are jab, cross and high kick. Which won't work agains Izzy cause he is always moving his head backwards. If he also tries the same combination with leg kicks, he will just leave himself open for counters. You also can't trade regular jabs with Izzy bcos he fight iq is much higher. Explosive jabs might work be he also counters that with better precision. The only hope Bobby has is to wrestle and use BJJ and not to be too obvious while going for the legs cos he is going to get kneed. Good luck to both fighter. But this is going to be KO Izzy by knee.
