6:03 Poirier's got one of the best if not the best check hooks/hooks in the game. Textbook form. Impeccable timing, I like how DC was saying he isn't fast but that shit still looks pretty fast even in slowmo. He's fast, just well timed and picks shots extremely well. Stays in the pocket but plays the range within inches. Plus his philly shell is extremely effective at blocking or taking power off punches. The People's Champ 100%. Has fought almost exclusively killers. One of the best records in the UFC if not the best for sure for his era. Can't really compare to old UFC, hard to because it was just different skillsets. No one was calf kicking or anything really. Just grappling + unconventional striking.

Man it’s tough seeing such a great tough fighter like Frankie Edgar go out the way he did. For so long he was an absolutely beast being able to take maximum damage and never get finished but now that he’s past his prime he’s simply not the same. I used to hold animosity towards Frankie because he took the belt off BJ Penn which started BJ’s really rough end of his career but now it’s Frankie going thru that same thing when Frankie was a perennial contender even after losing his belt and always right on the cusp of a title shot basically every single time he fought 😢 mma is such an unforgiving sport man. You’re the greatest one day then the next you can’t even beat newcomers you would have outclassed easily in your prime. Hopefully as time and technology improves, fighters won’t have such a steep decline as like chuck liddell and what we’re seeing now with Tony Ferguson as it’s really sad watching all these legendary fighters I grew up watching getting battered out there. Also hope fighters realize quicker when it’s time to hang up the gloves as the damage they take once they’re over the hill is so much significantly more than they did in their entire career.
