@@patricklutherwinchester4260 You two dunces don't know what the hell you're watching. GSP beat him for sure but he didn't kick the crap out of him. He took him down and held him there while landing minimal damage. Karo on the other hand almost finished GSP in this fight.

@PJ Rivera "All that blood".... Haha! People with a random nosebleed have had more blood than that, and, yes, that kimura, not straight armbar, was close for a second. Karo reversed a takedown and if you think GSP wasn't shitting himself for a second, you're dumb. Go away, casual.
@kommisar.
@kommisar. 3 жыл бұрын
@PJ Rivera No, it started as a kimura attempt and then GSP straightened his arm out to avoid the submission. Karo was unable to transition to the straight armbar. The initial takedown reversal notwithstanding, it's a basic move taught to white belts in BJJ. Karo was not even close to getting KO'ed and your idea of how badly he was bleeding is comically exaggerated. Another dumb casual talking out of his ass. Go drink another beer.
@kommisar.
@kommisar. 3 жыл бұрын
@PJ Rivera I do know what I'm talking about considering I learned that combination Karo used ages ago. I never said GSP didn't earn the decision or that he didn't do anything effective against Karo. I just said he was indeed good and if you think otherwise you're a stupid casual. Nice job liking your own comments by the way.

I don't think that GSP could've possibly been purely stronger than Karo at that point (or any point, I think). Karo was a grappling specialist, starting at age 8. To develop strength from all that resistence, from such a young age.. ooff. I assume he was much stronger than GSP. However, he lost decisively due to being an inferior MMA athlete.

GSP really showcased the future of MMA. In this fight we see it all: immaculate take downs, well timed defenses against an awesome grappler, and viscous ground and pound style strikes. The funny thing is that this was only GSP's 6th pro fight and he was only 22 years old at the time of this fight. So good at such a young age, this level of competition was almost like being fed to the wolves for his 1st UFC fight. Fighters do not get this type of experienced fighter in their 1st fight anymore. Unless you were a champ in a different organization like a Michael Chandler, but he had 26 pro fights before he first fought in the UFC.

Him saying all that shit provides background if you never heard of this guy that's not GSP which you may not have give this older video more context and comes off as lil professional for someone who essentially was fledgling standup comic, side character on a sitcom, and almost lifelong mixed martial artist himself at the time probably new at what he was doing. Since GSP was champion for so long we just take for granted that he is phenomenal, but for those not aware of the context at the time, this was a huge step up in competition for GSP and he was not really expected to win as Karo Parisyan was a very talented rising prospect back then. This fight kind of derailed him of his illusions and he didn't really emerge as the great fighter we expected and I suggest this loss was the grain of sand in his confidence shoe that he could never really ignore. Ya, that's what stood out to me as he was literally dominated every second. Unless ya count his weak, hopeless submission(not normally weak but weak against GSP)attempts from his back as his advantage he doesn't win another second of this fight. If there'd not been so much hype around Karo, Georges would've finished him. I think he played it a bit safe just to respect Karo's submission game. Karo was a total freak in strength but GSP ushered in the new era of the perfectly well rounded, super athletic, smart fighter who took strength at WW to a whole new level. JUst imagine packing the absolute most humanly possible strength and athleticism into a 5ft10 190 pound body(fight night) with 6% bf? Anyone who's that size and that lean is gonna be extremely strong but take that strength and athleticism and conditioning to the highest possible degree(for fighting at the time)possible and ya have GSP. He'd have felt harder and more smothering than a boa constrictor back then. Like a male gymnast instead devoted to unarmed combat. Crazy strong.

They actually wrote "big for welterweight" (which btw isn't true, by today's standards he would be considered an average sized welterweight at best) and if they were doing bullet points for a gsp fight today, they wouldn't have room for all of his accomplishments. Rogan and Goldberg are clueless in this fight, they were actually debating at one point if gsp won the first round. Rogan was starting to accept reality near the end when he realized he should have hedged his bet on Parisyan, but Goldberg remained disillusioned the entire time.

@@atruebmf that's entirely the opposite of the truth. The youngest fighters today would DESTROY the top 10 from 20 years ago. The fact is that the sport has evolved to the point where everyone is getting similarly excellent training and the "up and coming" fighters don't have an edge in development over the current roster, as well as the fact that MMA is now so popular that basically everyone in the sport is a freak athlete.

@@thexbigxgreen it’s just doping.. i hate to be that guy but most natural humans dont physically peak until 28-34, im talking about muscle maturity, facial structure, vascularity, athleticism.. as soon as USADA, WADA and understanding/exposing PEDs became mainstream “suddenly” everyone stopped being this jacked and matured at 21-22.. look at the roster nowadays, with a few exceptions everyone across the board dropped down 2 weight classes (bantamweight and featherweight suddenly has 5”10 people competing as opposed to 5”10 being the norm for 185 and above) and most champions are peaking later.. there are anomalies to both eras of course but just consider what i wrote here and maybe you will agree.

Every time parysian attempts something joe makes a big deal out of it, and every time GSP does something joe says that he's really strong. He didn't give him credit once for anything he did in there. That goes to show how biased joe was back then

Actually I think he's right. I love GSP but as we can see at the beginning of the fight GSP ain't faster or technically superior than Karo. The way he's getting out of that kimura is simply because he's stronger physically. That's kind of frustrating for Karo. Reminds the Nick Diaz fight. GSP is way bigger and stronger.
@adamzoubi96
@adamzoubi96 5 жыл бұрын
@@julienjulien6519 where do I start.. GSP was not just faster, not just a better wrestler, not just a 100 times superior striker. But GSP controlled every second of that fight, Karo couldn't get any offense going whatsoever from the closed guard, and that has nothing to do with strength if you know what you're doing you can't get cuaght in the guard,(there's a method to ground and pound). GSP showed showed great control and understanding in every position the only time he used toughness is when he survived the straight arm lock at the end. So yes joe wasn't seeing what GSP was doing.

@@shojo8708 I totally disagree with you joe is a striker first and foremost, he came to the UFC as a takwando black belt with kickboxing experience, so he appreciates the stand up more than anyone, and the only black guy that he (many people) call athletic is tyron woodly (and nganu/Romero) but that's because they are super athletic with extraordinary power and huge muscles muscles, that's not racism that's just being objective, and if he was such a racist why would he say that tyron is the greatest welterweight when GSP a white guy is the best welterweight in most people's opinions?

@@carter3369 I'm not sure if those were the golden years, but that period of time does seem to be when mma became much more mainstream. I remember when Chuck Liddell went on Dancing with the Stars in 2009, one of the reasons Dana White promoted that, was because he also saw it as an opportunity to give mma more exposure to the mainstream ABC network audience. That time period also seems to be the height of non-athletic dudes wearing Affliction, Von Dutch, and Ed Hardy "I'm a major douchebag wanna-be" t-shirts.
