That's what I think a lot of people really aren't grassping. He didn't just go up a division, he went up and then took on the number 1 fighter in the comp. Volk would destroy every other fighter currently competing at lightweight.

Volk is a breath of fresh air in these times. Old school, hard nosed, hard worker who gives it everything he's got with integrity. He's still a champion and still one of the top pound for pound.

The fuck you talking about? How does losing to a bigger guy drop him lower from pound for pound? It should show he deserves it more for fighting higher guys. Truth is Volkanovski won the fuckin fight. Another truth is that Makhachev's body can't handle any more weight cuts and he was not his usual self last night.

I'm just worried Volk's age is going to catch up to him soon. 35 I'd a but old for a featherweight, but he hasn't showed signs of slowing yet. I suppose age isn't the only thing to look at, however. There's also damage over time, of which he's taken very little.

What an amazing, EPIC fight! It was a close fight but I was giving it to Volk due to his demeanor during the fight, his amazing cardio, his determination, his strength, his striking and amazing wrestling skills that most didn't expect to see against Islam! I truly think that he can become double champ easily! Can't wait for the rematch.

I remember I use to root against Volk during his come up. Every time he defended his title I thought he wasn’t the guy. But this guy has had me rooting for him ever since he beat Ortega. He’s so damn good. Just sucks he couldn’t get this win.

I feel like this performance strengthens Volk's case for pound-for-pound #1, with the whole point of saying pound-for-pound being like saying "all things being equal" and Volk being a 45er that stepped up to 55 and put on a close fight keeps him at pound-for-pound #1 imo. Amazing fight with both guys surprisingly good at the others' strengths and a great crowd to back them up!

If he was 145 last night you would have a case but both of them were 155 at weigh in. He also has more reach than Islam but Islam was better on the feet too. He lost the number 1 spot fair and square. It was a very technical fight though and Volk did show up.

I just didn’t think Volk would get dominated like people said. The man is a warrior. Seeing him getting up after being taken down, reversing positions, and defending submission attempts was so damn thrilling - That rematch needs to happen, and will be so much more explosive with the improvements they’ll make! First time I’ve watched a UFC event live on tv and it was awesome. Hell yeah, Volk.

As being a Dagestani fan boy, today I finally saw that they are human after all. Inn happy Islam won, however, volk won my heart. Personally this should have been a draw. A fight like this it's almost impossible to not become big fans of both of these guys, especially Volk for being the smaller guy and pushing the larger guy to the absolute brink. Volk is such a savage and humble fighter, he even reveals spots where Islam should make adjustments in his striking. Never heard a fighter say something like about an opponent he just faced and very well may fight again in a rematch down the line. Incredible.

Volk can hang in the LW division with the best. I don’t think Poirier, Oliveira or Gaethje beat this man. He’s an animal and his cardio is unquestionably the best in the UFC. How the hell did he have that much energy after 5 rounds with a monster like Islam? Inspiring, even with the loss.
