@@keithdarman90I won’t say high level, but very competent in it and adapted really well early on as he was already a great grappler(NCAA division 1). I’d just say Weidman was younger and stronger wrestler at this point. And Vitor has always struggled against wrestlers. Vitor was a great style match up for Weidman. His strength is Vitor’s weakness. When Weidman fought Jacera Souza I was shocked he didn’t want to be on the ground with Souza at all and chose to stand and eventually got KO’d. I think Chris knew Jacre was high level BJJ and didn’t want to risk it..

While its true that Weidman does have good grappling skills and top control , it also true that Belfort despite always being credited with great ju jitsu (which I seem to recall he had some notable victories in that very 'sport') but this is something that has not really transferred to his MMA fighting career.

Vitor tested for elevated testosterone before the fight. Wasn’t full blown TRT Vitor, but was still on the juice.

The 3rd round vs rockhold is what ruined him. Herb dean should have stopped the fight way earlier.

Rockhold looked in better shape post USADA than pre USADA. He moved up to 205 and still looked shreded af. He just has a good body physique. Don't think he was on steroids I suspect Weidman was though. He looked a bit deflated a his cardio tanked post USADA. This fight with Vitor was probably the first time he fought clean

I loved watching Weidman fight- from the time he literally slipped the punch of Mark Munoz to counter with a spinning back elbow- to his knockout of legendary Anderson Silva, rematch :( and crazy fight with Lyoto Machida- But when the rules changed to where athletes could no longer re-hydrate with IVs, He was never the same after that. Dude was a huge middleweight and cut so much weight to get there. Imo he could have fought at Light Heavy just fine.

Prime Weidman's champ run was legendary Guy beat Anderson Silva 2x then beat Vitor and Machida. It wasn't a super long reign but it was quality All three of those guys were some of the most dangerous and skilled guys of their time.

Rockhold was slowing down and getting taken down much easier, Weidman was putting it on him on his way to win the decision and threw that silly ass kick. Been my favorite fighter for years and I was like “what the fuck was that ?” When it was live. But he still would have had to defend against people like yoel and jacare.. so he wouldn’t have lasted too much longer as champ anyways. The damage rockhold gave him in that mount after the failed kick changed his career, then getting knocked out a bunch of times didn’t help either lol

weidman was always a garbage fighter I even thought that when he beat silva. He had a very competitive fight with lyoto who was already washed up and beat an old non trt vitor, after that no notable wins. Hes always been trash.

Weidman still looked fantastic and was dominating his last fight. He is defying conventional wisdom and is in his prime at 39 years old. Call me crazy but I still believe he can become champion once again. Strickland vs Weidman for #1 contender
