@jmwwd I agree with you in some points. Sonnen was the best fighter at that night, but that is not the whole point in the business, the real goal is to be the winner, and not always the guy is both, the best fighter and the winner. The very little I know about Sonnen, I really think he would want to be the winner rather than the best at that night! I am brazilian and know Silva even before he joined ufc, he is not my favourite person in the world at all, but I do find him an incredible fighter..

@jmwwd Fair enough Silva did not use much tecnique during the fight, but at that very moment that Sonnen tapped, Silva did use such a good skill, applied very well in a brief, appropriate and perhaps the only possible gap that Sonnen gave to him for more than 4 rounds. You just don't do it only being lucky, that is my opinion!

Chael sonnen is my fav fighter now! he won a lot of respect, the guy was fighting in a UFC main event for the first time ever and he puts on a show like that against a fighter like Anderson Silva. Loved all the pre fight hype and trash talk done by him haha the post fight press conference was funny too!

That was a terrific main event last night, and a great show all-in-all, but that ending was such a buzz-killer. Sonnen tapped exactly as he did at 2:16. Get Herb to ref the main events from now-on.

The first 0:05 - 1:15 shows the Brazilian UFC fighters in one room and the American fighters in the other. The Brazilians were in a large room while the Americans were in a smaller room and appeared to have been sitting in a circle. Interesting.

i love how some people remarked on the fact that sonnens face looked worse than andersons after the fight but 99% of the 1 million punches and elbows that chael landed to andersons face where to the jaw,punches to the jaw dont leave cuts and bruises...

just watching clay guida get up their make me want to watch his fights. Clay guida win loss or draw always brings his A game. Never a boring fight and never any excuses.

@ydsgen Silva was able to rock Sonnen in the 4th and took Sonnen down but Sonnen turned it around and got on top of Silva, he stayed on top landing punches the rest of the round, looks like Sonnen won the 4th

It cant be denied, Chael sonnen is a badass, he was better on the feet and on the ground than anyone ive ever seen Silva fight, Chael dominated, from the first second till the very lucky triangle.

Silva's reactions to Chael during the presser were classic. I'm so happy he was able to put a beating on Anderson for 4 and a half rounds. Maybe now Anderson will take his position as the UFC Middleweight Champion a little more serious. Chael wins that fight 9/10 times. Anderson gets to keep the belt another year at the most. If Belfort doesn't beat him first, Chael will get him in the rematch.

Well done Chael Sonnen, you are one of the very best fighters!

Lol I always don't understand how fighters stay so calm and relaxed during fight night. Look at em all smiling and laughing. If i were them, i would get so nervous...more nervous as the fight nears. I would be scared haha.

The reason Silva was so bad is because he came in so cocky. He ended up getting rocked and being battered for the whole first round. It's hard to recover from that, and it can really get in someone's head. Luckily for Silva, he ended up pulling out a submission to get the win.

@constructed1984 I agree, but once again, as I said before, anderson was out of his best condition... in the remake (sure there'll be) sonnen's probabily gonna get his (own) face smashed and silva would appear as he was in the end of this fight... its not about rage, and cursing, and when its about trash talk, anderson get beat(lol).. but in the octagon its about technic... and anderson is still the best

@xKILLurGODx Yeah though Chael is a much more aggressive wrestler than Silva and is a lot more active. Dan's more oldschool and tries to just smother guys from inside the guard. Chael likes to posture up and look for every angle to throw punches from.

Chael in his past fights has shown that he'll deny tapping when it's clear as day to everyone that he tapped. He did it in his Paul Filho fight. So I was joking around by saying a better question is when Sonnen tapped, why didn't he deny it afterwards (like he's done in past fights).

@abbbcdy The urge from the fans is for GSP to go up to 185. It always has been. No one was wanting to see Silva drop to 170. The only time I ever heard that even mentioned was back around the event in Aubu Dabi where around the same time Silva stated he wanted to drop to 170. Silva's a big MW already. We don't need another Thiago Alves or Anthony Johnson trying to fight at WW.

@tyler0896 Yes, there have been a number of fighters to tap and then act like they didn't. This would be Chael's second time...although the first time against Paulo Filho he didn't tap, but gave up verbally and still denied it. In fact many fighters in this sport break the rules or find ways around them. Fighters absorb oils into their skin the night before a fight, others abuse performance enhancing drugs, or intentionally hold the cage (and yes it is intentional in many cases) and more.
