Eddie is overlooked because of how Conor dismantled him. But the man was a beast. KO’ing an undefeated Gaethje like that is impressive.

Gaethje other defeats only by Holloway, Poirier, Charles and Khabib. Not bad at all from Eddie especially that finish Justin had on Michael Johnson prior to this fight.

Nah, it's because he's 4-3-1 in the UFC if anything or at all. The 2 Poirier fights and the loss to Cerrone was more devastating than losing to prime Conor and he was only in the UFC for 4yrs. You also have to take into account who was in the division at the time and his medical status. He made the right decision imho and I really don't think older MMA fans overlook him at all tbh because W/L/D like JG you knew you were going to get a good fight.

@@juangringo3906 I also agree that real mma fans do not over look Eddie's UFC career. Being in the UFC for only 4 years (2 years at the time of winning the belt) and becoming lightweight champion of the world is extremely impressive in itself, where as guy's like Cerrone, Gaethje, Poirier, have been fighting in the UFC for damn near forever and the closest some of them could get is interim belts.

@@joefaller9664 Eddie is such a beast, he just was NOT ready for that soap opera act the UFC put on because Conor was so so massive, and fighting every 6 weeks, and they landed the garden for the first time. He just was not ready for such a specticle; they wanted him to lose pretty much so conor could get his 2 titles (Which he did NOTHING with), shame, but Eddie is a beast, he deserves his respect, especially for only being in the ufc for a short time. This fight was incredible

I think he took a dive in that fight. I believe Dana and the ufc forced several fighters to take a dive to push Connor's rise. Cowboy Cerrone comes to mind as well.

I think he gets respect. The man was not only a great fighter but he was always entertaining. I think the Conor fight cost him some fans, but that was Conor in his absolute prime. Eddie's a hall of famer for a reason.

And after that 3 minutes the only thing Joe mentioned is those body shots. Commentators say whatever they're seeing. People are saying bias this bias that, but if someone is winning an exchange they will say it. These guys don't milk people who are blocking punches with their faces, having a chin, having a heart and being a human punching bag. People think it's a good thing and a flex but in reality it's bad lmao.

Say what u want about alvarez or any other fighter but this particular performance from Eddie was so cool. Never lost confidence at any point didn’t break and kept his poker face strong and even with a mangled leg and a tennis ball sized swelling in his cheek after finishing a hard war like that wins and is just calm and cool as anything like no surprise he knew if was always gonna end like that. Love how he dropped him put his hands up then after finishing it just turns spits out the mouthpiece. Savage mentally fearless.

Gaethje was undefeated before this fight as well. Eddie is so incredibly underrated, boxing was very good, his body work was crisp, and he completely outdogged Gaethje even with comprised legs.

One of the most triumphant last hurrahs in the sport. Giving Alvarez one last elite guy that he was built to beat before he was past it gave us this, which remains one of the finest fights ever at 155. Better than the vast majority of title fights.
