@Yami_Spirit6 ай бұрын
@@crazy4052 It didn't help for sure but Tony did show signs of decline before that. He was just good enough to win despite that. I think along with the double weight cut, was the fact that he overtrained for Khabib. That fight was booked in December and he eventually fought in May. That's 5 months of training for a five round fight when champions usually have 2-3 month training camps. And then there's his inactivity of fighting once a year beyond his control during his mid 30s. So many factors caused a crazy downfall :(

The best and worst of Tony here. He was so fluid, so creative, a real terminator and had lasting power that carried past his prime. But he was getting hit with bombs on the regular. This Tony vs 2020 Gaethje would have been a much closer fight but it feels poetic that Gaethje, who unlike Tony, actually revised and refined his fighting style, got that win, unlike Tony who, since he didn't lose during the legendary 12 fight win-streak, never adjusted and walled up his defences even when he became worn down as his career went on.

So many of fans throw Ferguson under the bus and forget what he accomplished. Do not ever forget how good he was when he was on his tear! It was what?.. 11 or 12 straight wins? Probably one of the unluckiest fighters ever and best fighters to never hold the undisputed belt, but at least he had that interim belt... How many times can a guy get screwed out of his title shot? from Khabib missing weight then him tripping over a sound cable at the prefight media event and tearing his ACL. His opportunity got missed multiple times for silly reasons. Then he had to fight the worst killers in the division after his injury. And then he fought past his prime because it's just what he loved to do even if he was losing. Tony was good. Don't forget it!
