Watching Merab I'm surprised people say he is boring. Except Aldo, his fights were entertaining. He is definitely not holding down his opponents, his output is pretty high considering he is a wrestler. Even higher compared to certain strikers.

It’s an unfortunate incident of Merabs most high profile fights being the few he was boring in. Aldo fans will hate anyone that holds him against the fence (and I did too back then) and then casual fans sorta tuned out until he fought Sean. Merabs last fight impressed a lot of non-hardcore fans who didn’t know and so they watched his old fights and that has completely switched the narrative of Merab being boring. I don’t hear many fans say he’s boring anymore.

Also being associated with Aljamain Stirling is absolute poison since Aljo is one of the most dog shit boring fighters in existence. 90% of the reason I hated Merab was cos of this until I realised how different they are.

If knees to a downed opponents were allowed Merab would have so many TKO wins. He always gets people in a front head lock position but since he’s so short lots of fighters can squat down to be grounded. He would absolutely pulverise skulls if it was allowed. One of the rare instances where no grounded knees actually detriments instead of assists the wrestler.

Bruh, what happened to this ruthless ground and pound Merab had? This fight and the moraes one he took them down and absolutely obliterated them like arman does. Now a days he doesn’t even try and control his opponents on the ground he just takes people down to big bro them and then lets them get back up so he can literally run into them 10 times and cause as many violent collisions as possible. People say Ilia isn’t the matador, he’s the bull, but in reality Merab is actually way more of a bull lmao.
