Tons of respect to Tony for keeping his attitude upbeat and just enjoying the game rather than needing to be the best. Lot of people get down on themselves for losses but he doesn't quit. We could all learn something from this legend

3:26 spot on by Tony! His corner definitely shouldn’t have told him to shoot, knowing that Nate prepared for a wrestler all camp. His best chance was to stand and continue to attack Nate’s leg.

lol regardless if Nate prepared for a wrestler camp or not, you do not shoot Nate unless your wrestling is A+++. Nate is the most dangerous when he can use his Ju Jitsu, and most people who fight him are lucky because he likes to stand up, so starting a grappling match with him is the biggest mistake you could ever do. Has his corner not seen any of Nates matches?

@Nate-wh7or2 жыл бұрын
Why is everyone in the comments asking him to retire? I didn't think he did bad until his team urged him to do a TD. Same thing happened with Wittman and Usman yet no one goes on Wittman. Same with Gaethje and Rose. Sometimes fighters listen too much to their corner. He should go back down to 155 though not 170.
@clinch44022 жыл бұрын
Because he's 38, this is a young man's sport. At this point he's just taking more damage, fighting worse fighters. Downward spiral like BJ Penn who went from legend to KOed in bar fights.

That guy asking questions at 1:45 needs to get better at his job, phrasing questions that way is disrespectful. Props to Tony for being a professional, that makes one of them.

Why would you ask your fighter to shoot on a guy who's known for his submissions and has been preparing for a wrestler. He was doing good on the feet. Nate was hobbling
@williamtaboriii21752 жыл бұрын
Just a theory. So he doesn’t get punched in the face anymore when you know damn well he has serious signs of brain trauma dating back to February 2019 and his wife’s multiple 911 calls that no one mentions anymore. And during the portions of this fight he was winning and inflicting damaging calf kicks that were compromising Nate, Tony for some inexplicable reason kept turning away and trying weird 360 motions, only occasionally adding an elbow attempt. Maybe, just maybe, irrational behavior and then him not responding to his coaches shouting repeatedly “don’t turn your back” had them concerned. That’s my theory. Or maybe they’re incompetent and I’m a hater. But this fight legitimately worried me for Tony’s future. I have been saying for three and a half years why is no one still taking about the sport conversations about those 911 calls saying maybe he needs serious help and probably should never fight again. And Dana saying he didn’t believe Tony needed to be fighting for his health. Here we are 6 fights later, sadly. Hope he retires and never gets punched again.
@sumo._2 жыл бұрын
@@williamtaboriii2175 I understand your concern for Tonys health but quite frankly, we are not experts and even though we know CTE exists and understand some of the mechanisms behind it, we dont know it was solely responsible for the 2019 episode you mention. Factors that lead to things like psychosis are diverse and unpredictable, and it can happen to virtually anyone, brain trauma or not. Fighters can have preexisting mental health issues long before they ever put on gloves.
@williamtaboriii21752 жыл бұрын
@@sumo._ I completely agree. But brain trauma is much, much worse when added onto conditions like that. It compounds other issues. And vice versa. I know people are going to push back because that’s so common in America nowadays. But for his health, it’s time to hang it up. Stories like this don’t end well when the guy keeps fighting. Side note: Vex? Please tell me this is a Critical Role reference.
@arun_av252 жыл бұрын
I understand but at the time of the fight I think you have to do justice to your fighter. Nate was landing but often but a couple more of those shin kicks would've chewed up his legs. That spinning elbow stuff is classic tony although he's lost the athleticism to pull it off. Tony has rarely been the guy to initiate the takedown, he's good in scrambles and forcing the opponent to shoot. To switch up his entire fighting style this late in his career is a tough ask
@joshmaddux2 жыл бұрын
@@williamtaboriii2175 I agree. Tony shows irrational behavior so frequently. He says “I don’t see L’s, I only see growth” and not 10 mins later is slamming his fist on the table saying “it fucking sucks”.. referring to it not going to the 5th round and that he got caught.. or in other words, he took another “L”. Some, or even most of his “answers” to the presser questions are rants that are often just non sensical and confusing. I wanna like the guy.. I respect his fighting ability tremendously. I just can’t understand why more attention isn’t drawn to his increasingly odd behavior..

If he wants to hang around for a little longer, I think he would make a good gatekeeper for the top 15 at lightweight or up at Welterweight. It would be nice to see Tony holding back the contenders trying to make their way up the rankings. Might be able to do that for a few more years. He would be pulling in shit ton of cash and would have a good chance of getting some wins. Maybe some fights that aren't at such a high level - he has been fighting Killers nonstop his whole career.
