Been following RDA for a while now- I’d argue he was winning this fight. This punch was incredibly well placed and got Eddie the win for sure. But the momentum of this fight was going to RDA prior. Wish it would have went more rounds at least. I was so sad watching my boi lose here 😂

@dustintaylor6422 , wrong, Pettis vs RDA was a PPV event, after RDA won the title they made him fight on fight nights for some reason, Cerrone vs RDA was fight night too, maybe because RDA couldn't sell fights. Before that Frankie and Benson headlined the Saitama Arena in PPV event. Even Penn vs Sanchez headlined a PPV event.

Before all this talk about the best jab in the ufc as well, I think Eddie had one of the nicest jabs that he continues to improve on so that those wild hooks and uppercuts still get the job done. Nobody talks about it since in a southpaw vs orthodox matchup (Conor vs Eddie), it semi-neutralizes the lead hand of both men, and Conor by a long shot has the better cross. If Conor was an orthodox fighter I think eddie would have given a much better account of himself that night. Maybe not won, but shown up better

I feel like a lot of people will undersell Alvarez for his fight against McGregor. But if you look at his UFC run, he fought (at the time) the best guys. Loss to Cowboy who was on a run then and I believe fought for the title soon after or just before that. Controversial decision to Gilbert Melendez who at the time was a beast. Beat Pettis turns around a beats RDA who a lot of people thought was untouchable at that point in time. Tough loss to McGregor, should have been a DQ against DP. Proceeds to have an all out bloodbath against Justin Gaethje and then a tough loss to Porier that was relatively competitive until he got stopped. If you look at Alvarez's track record, besides ONE Championship, he won a belt in every promotion he fought for and was fighting the best guys that the promotion could offer. He was incredibly competitive with near everyone he fought too. Even now a record of 30 wins and 8 losses really is not that bad when you consider he fought from 2003 until 2021 in MMA. I will always say he is one of the better lightweights to ever do it because everywhere he went, he was in the conversation as one of the top guys.

Eddie has some of the most underrated boxing in all of MMA. Not all of his punches are pretty but he understands the questions each of his boxing weapons answers. Eddie could throw any punch and make an impact with it. Defense isn’t the greatest, but not too shabby either. We have Conor, master of the mma southpaw cross. I hear everyone talking about how Poirier has the meanest lead hook in the game now, but Eddie knew how to make something happen with the entire arsenal of punches that traditional boxing offers. I can only think of a few guys in the history of mma that had or have that ability

During this time period the UFC lightweight division was still sooo stacked and top heavy. Makes you kind of feel bad for guys like Poirier and Gaethje who were top contenders at this time but didn't get title shots against RDA, Eddie Alvarez or Conor when they were title holders. Poirier and Gathje were forced to face the unbeatable Khabib and the almost unbeatable Olivera by the time circumstances gave them their title shots. I bet both Poirier and Gaetjhe would have been LW title holders (other than Interim) if Khabib and Olivera weren't in their way, but thats the fight game.

Usually I'd say a standing TKO for a UFC championship is BS but I'm pretty sure RDA had about a 0.001% chance of riding that out and recovering enough to fight on. When the belt is on the line, the rules should be different. The belt can only change hands by finish (Ko, TKO or submission) or a dominant, one sided unanimous decision. No split decisions or close unanimous decisions. No doctor's stoppage or disqualification wins. If the champ gets himself DQ'd for whatever reason, he will be stripped of the belt and his opponent will fight the next top ranked guy in line for the undisputed championship
