Yeah way too overconfident in this fight. You can really see how reckless he was in the replay, his hands completely down before he throws the right hand, steps in way too close to Mike in the process and then tries to exit with both his arms still down and with his head turned barely even looking at Bisping.

@@malpal5825Rockhold was known for that tho. He had a string of bad knockouts because he didn't protect himself. His striking defense was extremely amateur compared to his offense.

I love the final left overhand that drops Rockhold, the way Bisping tucks his chin still, and pushes Rockhold's face with the right to gauge the overhand left. Nobody comments on it but he's fully protecting himself whilst in full brawl mode. Compare that against Rockhold's chin throughout. Rockhold was log and his legs were dangerous but he could not brawl.

The entire mma community came together and decided to embrace Bisping for this fight. He was a dick. Matt Hamill, Dan Henderson, Demarques Johnson, Jorge Rivera, etc. Bisping was a bonafide fuckin dickhead. But, after years of grinding against the UFC's best and usually losing "the big one," Bisping has started to win over the fans. After being headkicked and one-arm guillotined by Luke in their first fight, he scratched and clawed for wins over Dolloway and Leites, which put him in a position to fight Anderson Silva. He gave Anderson Silva hell, bringing the pressure and even dropping Anderson. He showed so much grit, being knocked out with a flying knee but allowed to continue. He dug deep, showed a TON of grit, and was able to grind Silva for a tight decision win. That still wasn't enough for a title fight, but when Chris Weidman got injured, nobody would step up. Not Jacare, Yoel, or anyone else. Then, Bisping got the call. Despite being out of shape and filming a movie, he cowboy'd up and took the fight against the guy who had smoked him just a year and a half earlier. Luke's arrogance had the fans rooting agisnst him, but they didnt plan on rooting for Bisping. But Bisping was the guy we got. He showed up as defiant as ever, looking to make his dream come true. Bisping was respected as a very good striker, but nobody considered him deadly. He had gotten many tkos in the UFC, but he never separated anyone from his senses. Yet, at UFC 199, when it mattered more than ever, he landed the perfect counter left hook right on the jaw, before pounding Luke unconscious. It was like a great pro-wrestling face turn. Perfectly scripted. One of the biggest and best upsets EVER. Bisping became a LEGEND that night.

Still one of my favorite fights. A weakness that was never solved which led to a potential great career going down the wayside. Bisping through 10 left hooks and only three landed and not once did the commentators mention it.

Bisping's knockout by Hendo at UFC 100 made my night many years ago. Seven years later, I got emotional, with tears in my eyes, when he finished Rockhold in the first round. My story isn't unique; Bisping won many of us over. It remains one of my favorite moments in all of sports-and with one eye? Incredible. All-time tough guy.

Rockhold not only keeps his chin up, but his right hand down, and leaves himself open for exactly what Bisping hit him with. His over confident style was costly there.
