People always call close fights robberies. This fight is a great example to show people of obviously incorrect decisions by both the referee and judges.

Bisping showed incredible grit here, but you can really see Silva's age starting to affect his reactions in this one. Still a classic fight between two legends!

Herb kinda fucked this fight up. There was a break in the action, Bisping wanted his mouthpiece back, herb hesitated, Anderson hit a stationary target. Until the knee, Bisping was winning the whole fight.

This was the fight where I finally noticed that Silva’s reflexes and speed had taken a hit when it came to dodging strikes. In the early rounds, he was basically testing the waters to see if his reflexes were still sharp. This match really clarified that for me. His bout with Nick Diaz was still him at his peak, though steroids definitely played a role there. But this fight was the moment it became clear that he had officially slowed down.

I thought Bisping won the fight but the visual at 31:15 is hilarious with Michael’s face a bloody mess 😂

Peak showboat Silva here. He could have won this fight at any time and consciously chose not to. A lot of people complain about the judging on this fight, but which 3 rounds do you give to Silva? You can win fights various different ways, with the most common being knockout, submission, or judges scorecards. The fighters know this. They know the rules. The first criteria for judging a fight is "effective grappling and/or striking" which is generally defined as "contributes to the finish of a match." If one fighter is superior in that category, then the other criteria do not matter, that being aggression and fighting area control. The fighters know this. Round 1: Bisping is throwing more shots, landing more shots, while Silva is just clowning around. Bisping 10-9. Round 2: More of the same, Bisping is throwing more shots, landing more shots, Silva is just clowning around. Add in the takedown in the end, and Bisping is now up 20-18. Round 3: Now Silva comes alive and starts doing Silva things (he's actually my favorite fighter of all time when he's actually doing the thing). Silva is throwing more shots, landing more shots, and despite the kurfuffel at the end with the mouthguard, Bisping still should have been protecting himself at all times. Round to Silva, but Bisping still up 29-28. Round 4: Silva could have ended it. Instead, he consciously, willfully allowed Bisping to get back into the fight. Instead of attacking the wounded animal, Silva goes back to clowning around. Throw in the low blow, and now Bisping gets even more time to recover from the Round 3 onslaught. But once again, instead of ending it, Silva chooses to clown around and let Bisping back into it. Round to Bisping, 39-37. Round 5: Silva knows he needs a finish, so he pours it on and throws everything he has at Bisping, who takes it all and keeps trucking along. Round to Silva, and you could even make the argument that it's a 10-8 round, I still score it a 10-9 by default. So in the light most favorable to Silva, it's a draw at 47-47. But I agree with all three judges here at 48-47 Bisping. For those of you who say Silva won, besides rounds 3 and 5, which other round do you give to him? By the judging criteria, Bisping won 1, 2, and 4. Those are the rules. Now if Silva actually wanted to win this fight, he would have started doing Silva things in round 2, and the fight would probably have been stopped in Round 3 at some point. He did everything he could to lose. Maybe he was paid off so he had to intentionally botch 3 rounds, but still wanted to look good in the botch by battering him for the 2 other rounds. Either way, Bisping won.

Silva seemed the superior fighter, but seemed unwilling to take advantage, except when the ref stopped the fight...then he took full advantage of his opponent dropping his guard. Ref was indecisive, Silva was not. Judges probably took that, and the fact that Silva was almost entirely defensive, into account.
